Default A Fresh Perspective

When I test drove the new 991S Cab, I had driven to the dealer in my 997S and just finished a test drive in a 997 Turbo. I thought it was a great car and immediately ordered my own.

Tonight, I've been driving a Panamera S for a month, which brings a fresh perspective. I just brought home my new Cab -- eighty miles, at night, in Los Angeles freeway traffic. The acid test of a sports car is how intuitive it feels when your attention is riveted on decoding the pretty lights of a thousand vehicles intimately sharing your road, and you must follow that river of lights up into the Angeles mountains and maneuver among them while shifting manually to stay below 4000 rpm at all times. Top down at first, and then top up for the last twenty miles.

Damn. This is not a great car. This is a brilliant car. Absolutely brilliant. Never put a foot wrong.

Pictures tomorrow.

Interesting. I also drove the 997 turbo for comparison purposes but came to a slightly different conclusion. Congrats on the purchase. Did you trade in your 997S?

I did. Gave it to them that week and I've been driving the Panamera S as a loaner for the last few weeks.

You put your finger on it with that "acid test" comment. And not for the first time, either. Good to know this brilliant Carrera will be in the care of such a perceptive driver. If only more of them could. Congratulations, and keep the comments- and photo's- coming!

congrats Gary - I look forward to your thoughts in the weeks and months ahead It really is a brilliant car..well said. Just tried to capture the PSE with a GoPro camera tonight, but mounted on the dash (with the top down) didn't quite get it. Will perhaps have to mount outside near the pipes somehow. Anyway, glad you got the car..photos when you have a chance please, sir.

Gary - I agree with you. I have had my 991S for six months and I just can't wait to drive it every day. I keep thinking that it can't be that much fun - but it is.

The balance of the car gives one such confidence to push it to new limits, I'm sure you'll find them before some of us do. The combination of terrific power delivery combined with razor sharp handling is tough to beat. I hope you enjoy your car as much as I enjoy mine.

Every time I take mine out for an hour or so, I don't make it back for 2-3 hours. Brilliant is right, it's always hard to tear myself away from it. Congratulations Gary!

Finally! Congrats. I am 7 months and ~8500 miles into mine (and its not my only car) and I have the same impression every time I get into it.

Pics please, and more impressions as you begin to figure out the changes from your 997S.

These posts are so therapeutic! I drive the long way home, I get out and stare at her for ages, I nip into the garage at night before going to bed for another look - thank God its not just me!
