Zenith Blue 996 911 Makes Big Splash with Team Speed Members
Gorgeous photoshoot with a timeless 911 in a rare shade of blue will stand the test of time.
Porsche’s palette has plenty of timeless classics, including Guards Red, Carrera White, Aztec Silver, and Gulf Orange. Every car in Porsche’s history you can think of has worn those shades, and then some.
Yet, there are rarities among the oft-used colors, including Zenith Blue. This shade was worn on 996 911s for five model years, and on the Boxster for two non-consecutive model years. Only a few of those cars were ever painted in this color, including a 996 we found while looking through the forums of our sister site Team Speed the other day.
“Hello my name is Damon and [I’m] an amateur photographer from Australia,” wrote Team Speed forum member DL599 back in January of 2012. “Recently I visited Brisbane and has the opportunity to shoot this beautiful Zenith Blue Porsche 996. This car is beautifully specked, the colour is Zenith Blue and this is the rarest colour for this Porsche and the only one in the state.”
The forum member adds that the owner of this Zenith Blue 996 911 added 997 Turbo wheels to the corners, and a Gemballa exhaust kit with new parts for the engine to improve performance. But it’s the Zenith Blue which had more than a few forum members talking above all else.
“First time [I’ve] actually not completely hated in disgust a 996.1,” wrote member McRae. “[It’s] decent indeed. The 997.2 Turbo wheels help [a lot].”
Another member, Stoppie, added that the Zenith Blue “looks very similar to Cobalt,” a shade last seen on the 2009 Boxster and Cayman, and was also available to the 996 and 997 from 2001 through 2011, according to the Porsche Club of America’s Rennbow color database.
The original poster said the 996 owner was planning on mods for the interior, and replacing the brake calipers to improve the car’s stopping power. We, of course, think it had plenty of stopping power already, as it’s not every day you’ll come across a Zenith Blue Porsche. We certainly hope it’s still out and about today, getting ready to welcome the summer sun when December rolls around.
