Turns Out Obi Wan Kenobi Is An Air-Cooled 911 Fan

Star Wars alumni Ewan McGregor plays Obi Wan Kenobi, and really took a liking to this 1972 Porsche 911T.

Of the many Venn Diagrams that can overlap automotive enthusiasm and other pop culture items, we’d imagine that cars and Star Wars have quite an overlap. Proof? Ewan McGregor‘s Porsche 911T. Yup, Obi Wan Kenobi drives an air cooled Porsche.

Spotted over on Bring-A-Trailer, McGregor picked up this 911T in 2019 after it had been in storage for a number of years. As such, this 911T Targa has low miles, with just 38,000 or so odometer clicks. This particular example is a well-optioned model, with factory air conditioning. Conditioned occupants find themselves in black trimmed interior, with Pepita fabric and leatherette seats.

Aural sensory is amplified by the 2.4 liter, six cylinder motor. If one were to ever want to get out of this 911 (we’re not sure why they would) they would see mostly original paint, though some areas have been rejuvenated.

During the time of Obi Wan’s ownership, the car has received a number of refreshments and fixes. It’s nice to see a car get better under anyone’s ownership, and this car is no different. Air conditioning, engine seals, overall engine performance, suspension refresh, and a Porsche Classic radio were all part of this car’s many improvements. It’ll now drive like it did when it left the factory in 1972.

But Ewan is now ready to move on and that’s why it’s up for auction. Selling for $166,000, it seems to be that the past owner history adds about 40% to the value of this particular Targa. That’s about in line with a lot of other celebrity owned vehicles. But it’s interesting as McGregor isn’t as well known of a gearhead as say, Jay Leno or Porsche crazy Jerry Seinfield.

But to his credit, McGregor put on a good amount of miles during his time with the car. At least a lot more than when it was in storage before he bought it. The next owner really ought to do the same. Because letting a car like this sit and not be driven is something a Sith would do.
