La Jolla Concours d'Elegance

From April 19 – 21 the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance will celebrate the timeless elegance of the Roaring ‘20s and the Glamorous ‘30.

Spring is almost here and that means a host of world class automotive events are close to kicking off. One such event is the spectacular La Jolla Concours d’Elegance which will run April 19 – 21 at La Jolla Cove. Over 170 of the greatest automobiles in the world will be on display and competing in 15 different classes. And as great as that is, that does not even begin to capture all the wonderful activities that will be taking place that weekend. There will be a vintage car driving tour, a VIP party, and a Porsche-only car show. And all of this will take place with people celebrating the design and style of the Roaring 20’s and the Glamorous 30’s.

You can indulge in all of these car-related events and feel good about it because 100 percent of the net proceeds benefit the La Jolla Historical Society. The charity “preserves and shares La Jolla’s distinctive sense of place, and serves as a community resource and gathering place where residents and visitors explore history, art, ideas and culture.” There are several different ticket packages available starting at $95 for general admission and going up to $575 for the Ultimate VIP Package. The VIP Party on Friday night kicks things off in grand style. Hang out on the Concours lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean and listen to classic jazz music. Food from over 20 of San Diego’s top restaurants will be available for you enjoy and cocktails, craft beers and artisanal wines from a hosted bar will help you wash it down. Oh, and did we mention the cars? There will be a fine display of rare automobiles from the 1920s and 1930s.

Porsches on Prospect

This free event will be of particular interest to our Rennlist readers. On Prospect Street in the Village of La Jolla will be over 75 Porsches on display. There are plenty of art galleries and shops to visit throughout the village just in case you grow tired of looking at all the Porsches.

Concours

La Jolla Concours d’Elegance

The main event takes place on Sunday when over 170 cars compete in the La Jolla Concours d’Elegance. Classes include American Elegance of the 20’s & 30’s, European Elegance of the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and of course Porsche Air Cooled. Last year Best in Show went to a 1931 Duesenberg Model J Weymann “TaperTail” Speedster. There were a couple of Porsche winners as well. A 2019 Porsche 935 Coupe took home the La Jolla Historical Society Award, and a 1952 Porsche Glaser Cabriolet won the Porsche Air Cooled Class. There is plenty to see and do at this remarkable show, so if you are in the area (and even if you are not), we highly recommend attending.
