How the Porsche Taycan Received a 5-star Crash Test Rating

By -

Euro New Car Assessment Program has given the all-electric Porsche the highest possible rating.

The Porsche Taycan is considered by many to be the finest electric vehicle one can purchase today. Porsche somehow has managed to keep part of the soul of driving in a machine without a gas-powered engine. Not a single one of its competitors can say the same. Being fast doesn’t mean much when a car can’t give you an engaging driving experience. That driving experience, however, is what Porsche has built its brand on. The pleasure of driving is without a doubt at the center of this new Porsche just as it is in a 911.

You might be thinking, how is it possible that the Taycan can excel in so many aspects? Well, it’s not done quite yet. The Taycan just recently received its crash test certification from Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Program). As you might assume from the title of this article, the Taycan did very well. In this video, we get to see some of the actual testing of the Taycan provided by Business Insider on YouTube, which shows the car is safe as can be.

According to the narrator for the video, the “side pole is one of safety expert Euro NCAP’s most challenging tests. But check out how rigid the structure of the Taycan is. The roof barely deforms and the A-pillar… it doesn’t even flex.” As the video continues, we see a variety of different testing methods for determining the overall safety standard that the Taycan manages. Side impacts, frontal impacts, the effect on rear passengers, you name it. It’s amazing that even pedestrian impacts are considered as part of the safety rating nowadays.

This means that “part of the assessment of the Taycan’s ability to keep people safe is the car’s ability to recognize a dummy on the road.” So they test not only mobile pedestrians but also cyclists. This puts the car’s autonomous emergency braking systems to test. In most circumstances, the car managed to do quite well to mitigate collision or injury with the dummy pedestrians.

Obviously, the Taycan isn’t perfect and not every single type of crash or collision can be simulated. No will ever manage a perfect score. However, this didn’t stop the Porsche from getting 5 out of 5 stars during their testing. Thus, you can be certain that if you buy one of these all-electric Porsches, you are buying a quality product you can trust with your life. Want to check out the report for yourself?
