Does a Supercharged 996 Strike Your Fancy? Is It Worth Nearly $30k?

Here at RennList, we understand that we cater to a wide variety of Porsche enthusiasts. And when it comes to the poster-child car, the wonderful 911, opinions can be quite polarizing, to say the least. But what fun would it be to never challenge the status quo — to challenge the purists on what works and what doesn’t? Enter today’s challenge: a 2000 996 Carrera with extensive modifications, including its party piece, a supercharger adding five pounds of boost and 129 extra ponies to the flat six. It’s currently listed on ebay for close to $30 grand.

Outrageous as it may seem, the listing claims that the job was professionally done and the car runs without a hitch. In addition to the forced induction, the Carrera sports a GT3-like body kit, aftermarket wheels and Bilstein coilovers. But the best feature isn’t really a feature at all, it’s the respectable 50K miles on the clock, which is not bad at all for a 2000 model year. Overall, the paint is in good condition, along with the two-tone leather interior. The “runny yoke” headlights are also well in tact, free of major scuffs and general discoloration. All things considered, this is a pretty clean 911, but is it worth the $27,800 price tag?

That is for you to decide. Perhaps surprisingly, the majority of readers on Jalopnik thought the price was just right for the speciality Porsche. Something about a supercharged Carrera just still doesn’t sound quite right.
