Ruf RT12 R Looks for Millions at Mecum

RUF RT12 R

730 horsepower Ruf RT12 R is one of only two in the world. With a top speed of 230 MPH, it’s not for the faint of heart.

You’re likely familiar with Ruf if you’re a Porsche enthusiast. However, some still envision Ruf vehicles as modified Porsches. While, on the surface, that’s technically what they are, it’s a bit more involved than that. Alois Ruf and crew completely overhaul the Porsche vehicles that they get from tip to tail. So much so, in fact, that Ruf is considered an automotive manufacturer, not a tuner or modification company. Each Ruf vehicle is considered exactly that, a Ruf vehicle. Not a Porsche. They even have their own VINs.

While the chance to own one is scarce, the chance to own an RT12 R is virtually unheard of unless you’re an original owner. Only 13 RT12 Rs exist, and only two in the world are rear-wheel-drive. This happens to be one of them. So, it’s no wonder that this 2015 Ruf RT12 R is expected to reach as high as $1.5 million when it crosses the auction block at Mecum Auctions’ Indianapolis event on the weekend of May 21st, 2022.

The RT12 R is A Freakishly Fast Creation

The Ruf RT12 R gets its power from a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine. Ruf spent a full year developing this engine specifically for the RT12 R. With a pair of turbochargers, titanium connecting rods, Mahle pistons, and custom-ground camshafts, Ruf turned up the heat. The resulting power is an eye-watering 730 horsepower and 693 pound-feet of torque. This particular RT12 R sends the power through a six-speed manual transmission to solely the rear wheels. Certainly, this is not a beast that just any driver can tame.

According to Ruf, this car can sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.3-seconds. Flat out, this monstrous vehicle is capable of a top speed of 230 miles per hour. Don’t worry, though; it’s perfectly safe. It has precisely engineered and set up coilover suspension as with every Ruf vehicle. It’s specially tuned to complement the vehicle’s rigid chassis to ensure that it hugs the ground in even the most questionable traction situations.

Inside, the Ruf RT12 R has a pair of carbon fiber racing seats with throwback styling in the plaid blue and green inserts. It also has bespoke diamond stitching on the door cards and other high-quality materials throughout the cabin.

Beautiful from Tip to Tail

Ruf re-styles the entirety of the 911 this car starts life as. With custom rear fenders with intakes for the turbochargers and a widened stance with a complimenting front bumper and splitter, the RT12 R looks exceptionally aggressive. Additionally, finishing it all off is a high-rise wing from the 911 GT3 RS.

This one of two Ruf is going to be quite the conversation starter for its next owner. We’ll certainly be watching the Mecum auctions to see what hammer price this gorgeous collector’s item brings in!
