This Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup car is available to rent, and the experience looks well worth the cost.

Most all of us have either driven a race car or have dreamt of doing so at least once in our lives. Almost every automotive enthusiast also grew up idolizing some racer, wishing they could fill that person’s shoes at least once. There are ways to do just that, of course, even if we aren’t quite as talented as the Walter Rohrls of the world, as anybody can take a car to the track and wring it out, or even rent one. But a German company called Laptime Performance took things a step further recently when it let YouTuber Heel and Toe take a Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup for a spin around the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao, Portugal.

This sort of experience isn’t just limited to folks that make videos for a living, however, as Laptime Performance rents out Porsche 991.2 GT3 Cup cars to pretty much anyone wanting to try one out on a simple track day, race it in an actual event, or even campaign across an entire season.

That would normally sound like a pretty pricey endeavor, but this is no ordinary race car. The last-gen 911 Cup can go 100 hours before it needs an engine rebuild, which is around 2-2.5 seasons of Carrera Cup. Better yet, they’re known for being incredibly reliable, which isn’t a hallmark of most race cars.

As for what it’s like to drive the car, well, it’s pretty much what you’d expect. Our host notes that it took a few laps to get a feel for the course, which has a few crescents that are difficult to see over. “I haven’t driven many Porsches, let along at the limit,” he said. “You really need to stay on the brake in the apex because if you aren’t braking the front just has no weight and there’s so much less grip. You notice if you stay on the brake how planted the car is in the front.”

Overall, however, this outing proved to be every bit as thrilling as one might imagine. “Oh my God, what an experience,” our host concludes. “I’m absolutely shattered, sweating, super exhausted. It’s plenty fast for a race car, the gearbox is unbelievable. The car has a lot of grip and it’s very manageable. This is actually one of the most incredible driving experiences I’ve ever had.” If that isn’t a ringing endorsement that makes us want to go rent one of these cars more than we already did, well, we’re not sure what would motivate someone to make that happen.
