1975 Porsche 914

This Porsche is the result of a short-lived, unique partnership with VW.

We love sharing rare Porsches with our readers. Sometimes we feature incredibly rare variants of newer models that go for the price of a home, sometimes more. Other times, like today, we want to highlight a Porsche that won’t break the bank, but is still rare and incredibly interesting.

Over at Classic Cars, they recently listed a beautiful 1975 Porsche 914, that has been obviously painstakingly kept up. For those that don’t know, back in the late 1960s to the mid 1970s, Porsche partnered up with Volkswagen to develop a new entry level vehicle. Originally, they were going to release a 4-cylinder version for VW and a 6-cylinder version for Porsche, with both sharing the same body type. However, once the design was complete, Porsche decided to release both versions as Porsches, but still highlight the partnership. Thus, the 914 was born.

Other than being part of a body style that only lasted several years, this 914 is rare because of the color choice. The 914 was only manufactured until 1976 and each year would have its own unique color option. For 1975, the color option is the Palma Green Metallic found on this model. And this Palma Green Metallic is definitely striking. The green is highlighted by the black trim features throughout the exterior. The 1975 model is the first year they introduced a rubberized bumper that helped with high-speed stability. As you can see, the black rubber bumper completely works with the metallic green.

The listing describes the internals of the Porsche, and for those that would be interested, the car is completely orginal, minus the new tires. The engine is still the 1.8-liter 4-cylinder found in the 1975 models. While not the most beefy engine around, especially by 2017 standards, the car still runs well and will zip around your neighborhood just fine.

It’s clear, judging from the pictures, that the previous owner of the vehicle took incredible care with the 914. The interior looks as new as the day it was purchased. The black leather seats and black dash show very little signs that this car is over 40 years old. Combined with the flawless exterior, this 914 is a car that you’ll instantly want to show off to anyone with eyes.

For those interested in learning more about the vehicle, the current asking price is only $16,500, and as noted in the listing, these 914s are becoming more collectible as the years go on. So, this would be a solid purchase for those who like a Porsche with a little character and full of quirks.
