Porsche Taycan Turbo S vs. Porsche 911 Turbo S: Wet Drag Race

By -

The Porsche Taycan Turbo S takes on the Porsche 911 Turbo S in a wet drag race.

Porsche 911 Turbo S is a staple in absolute speed and engineering, but is the all-electric Porsche Taycan Turbo S faster in the wet?

The mighty 640-horsepower Porsche 911 Turbo S is a bit of an apex predator. Its fast, light, sharp, and well-engineered. However, with much of the auto industry committing to electrification, the Porsche Taycan has a bright, high-voltage future. The 750-horsepower Porsche Taycan Turbo S is fast, but is it as fast as the well-established lightweight champion?

Is the Porsche 911 Turbo S faster than the Taycan in a wet drag race?

Mat Watson and his Carwow team set out to crown a wet-weather winner with a series of races. First, they lined up the 911 and the Taycan on the wet surface with the stability control on. The results were very, very close, but the Taycan edged out the Turbo S by a minimal margin.

What happens when the cars turn off stability control?

Just as curiosity got the best of the cat, it got the best of the Carwow crew as well. Watson and his fellow Carwow driver turned off stability control to see if the 911 Turbo S would benefit from a leveled playing field. Unlike the Taycan, the 911 uses its engine management system to control the performance of the internal combustion engine. On the other hand, the Taycan simply applies its power

The results were favorable for the venerable Porsche 911 Turbo S. After it figured out where it wanted to be in terms of timing, RPMs, and traction, the Turbo S dashed to a 10.8-second quarter-mile, finishing several tenths of a second ahead of the all-electric Porsche.

Does the Porsche 911 Turbo S brake harder than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S?

To finish the testing, Carwow put the vehicles head-to-head in a braking test from 100 mph. Once both drivers figured out the mechanics of the test, the victor was plainly obvious. The lightweight and razor-sharp 911 stopped much quicker than the Taycan.

The Taycan Turbo S is a brilliantly quick four-door electric sedan, but the Porsche 911 Turbo S is in a different league. Click on the link below to join Rennlist today!
