Porsche at Hillsborough Concours D’Elegance

The 64th year of the world’s longest running Concours names Porsche its featured marquee brand for 2019.

Now in its 64th year, the Hillsborough Concours D’Elegance stands as the world’s longest continuously running Concours. And yet, it continues to grow. This year saw over 200 amazing cars line the greens of the Crystal Springs golf course in in Burlingame, California. When it was all over, a pristine 1933 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron CL took home the prestigious “Best in Show” honors. Otherwise, Porsche dominated the list of winners.

That included, of all things, a 1959 Porsche 408 Tractor, for starters. The old farm hand took home the “Arcane and Rare Through 1987” win. A 1958 Speedster took home the “Owner’s Choice” award, leaving a lasting impression upon the show’s participants. And this year’s Concours featured a total of four Porsche specific classes as well – one for the 356, another for the best air-cooled 911/912/930/959, a racing class, and one specifically for “Recent Classes.”

And that was only the beginning of a year dedicated to Porsche. The Concours began on Friday with the sold out Kick-Off party, which this year featured renowned Porsche racer and restorer Bruce Canepa. Concours organizers also selected Porsche as this year’s featured marquee brand. Thus, an incredible display of cars set up shop to celebrate the occasion.

This eclectic group included, for starters, the 1970 24 Hours of Daytona winning 917K. It was joined by a choice selection of cars from Canepa’s personal collection, including a 917/10, 935, 962, 959SC, and 918 Spyder. “This year’s Concours featured the most diverse selection of exceptionally rare, priceless and unique vehicles in our event’s history,” said Hillsborough Concours d’Elegance Chairman Richard Kelaita.”

Other highlights of the show included a stunning “Preservation Class” featuring 14 exceptional examples of unrestored cars. There was also a special “Evolution of Speed” display which showcased 10 of the fastest cars of the last century by decade. On Saturday, attendees were also able to participate in the Hillsborough Tour d’Elegance. The road rally wound along the Bay Area’s most stunning back roads and scenic vistas. All the while led by police escort and finishing at a private estate in Hillsborough for lunch.

After setting yet another attendance record, there’s no sign of the Hillsborough Concours D’Elegance slowing down any time soon. So be sure and stay tuned here for information leading up to next year’s 65th annual event!
