Hailing from Portlandia, current owner of 924S took their modded ride out 2019 editions of Baja XL, Coastal Range Rewind rallies.

Porsche and rallying are a way of life. Back in the day, it was 911s draped in Rothmans and Martini colors. Around the mid-1980s, Porsche brought out its 959 to the Paris-Dakar Rally, winning twice in 1984 and 1986. And back in the 2000s, the factory used the Cayenne S in the TransSyberia Rally across the Russian tundra.

Thus, it shouldn’t be any surprise that someone transformed their 1987 924S into rally car of their own. And now, it is looking for a new home through Bring a Trailer, preferably one where it can tear it up anywhere it goes.

Currently residing in Portland, Oregon, the 924S has already seen action this year at Baja XL and Coastal Range Rewind rallies, plus was shown at the Porsche Excellence Center in Los Angeles, and Petrolicious published a story of this wonderful Porsche in April. The car was a Craigslist find, and was built specifically for entry into the 2019 Baja XL in Southern California.

The source of power for this Safari-fied 924S is its stock 2.5-liter inline-four, which made 150 horses back in the day. The mill is linked to the rear via a five-speed manual transaxle, and has plenty of fresh bits here and there to tackle all of the rally action it took on, and drive home there after.

While the 2.5-liter may have only been refreshed, the outside of the 924S gained more than a few items to make it able to rally like its Teutonic siblings. The luggage rack holds a pair of red gas cans, the array of driving lights up front brightening the darkest trails, the Warn winch mounted below is ready to rescue the car if needed, and the 15-inch rally wheels wrapped in off-road rubber help forge a path wherever the car goes.

Inside the 924S, there’s a 944 short-shift kit to travel through the gears without delay, a pair of reupholstered cloth and black leatherette seats, a much-needed GPS and CB radio, and a full-size spare in the back for when there’s a flat on the trail.

The Guards Red and gold 924S Safari build is as awesome as it gets. May the next owner enjoy all this rally Porsche has to offer.
