Porsche Schuppan 962CR Is One Extreme Road Car

The most amazing things sometimes come from Japan, even if they are German… or Australian. This Schuppan 962CR is a wonderful combination of all three. After Porsche had its successful run with the 956 and 962 endurance racing prototype cars, some were converted into road use. As you can imagine, the road cars were as extreme as the race versions.

Vern Schuppan, a highly successful factory 956 driver, was the leading force behind the car you see here. In terms of road-going 962s, this one is probably the most distant cousin to the race car. An all-new chassis, and completely different bodywork were developed, though the powerplant was lifted straight out of a 962.

To make things suitable for the road, the suspension was softened a bit, and the engine’s displacement was increased from 2.7 to 3.3 liters. It’s still putting out about 600 horsepower, so it’ll still be easy to pretend like you’re blasting down the Mulsanne. Inside, gold leather surfaces make things comfortable, even though it will be a tight squeeze with the two seats close together. But really, if you had this car, would you mind?

Only a handful of these were made, ensuring rarity. This one can be found at supercar sales center Bingo Sports, located just outside of Tokyo.
