In July, the 25th year of the famous Festival of Speed will coincide with the 70th anniversary of the introduction of the 356.

This year the Goodwood Festival of Speed turns 25 years old and will be celebrating with a theme called ā€œSilver Jubilee.ā€ The host, British aristocratĀ Charles Gordon-Lennox, who is the 11th Duke of Lennox and owner of Goodwood Estate in West Sussex, will look back on the past 25 years and present his favorite moments from each festival as a way to celebrate. For the third time, Porsche will be invited to create the central display as a way to honor their contributions. This year will mark 70 years since the automaker introduced the 356 in 1948. The festivities will commence July 12-15.

“Porsche has been one of our most loyal and enthusiastic partners, supporting the Festival of Speed since 1995, and the Revival since 2010,” says The Duke.

Goodwood takes an easy spot in our top 10 ā€œmust seeā€ events before we die. Scratch that, top 5. Porsche has confirmed that not only with the 1948 356 No 1 be there, but it will be a participant! The only other confirmed Porsche, from the factory, is their 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship winning 919 Hybrid LMP1. That should make for a sonorous ride up the famous hill.

Porsche is playing coy with the details of what else they plan to bring to Goodwood, but they do drop this hint, saying it will be ā€œa never-before-seen paradeā€ of the vehicles that helped ā€œdefine and guideā€ the company. Color us intrigued. The press release also mentions that the same artist, Gerry Judah, will again be providing a centerpiece for the show. He’s the artist responsible for the trio of Porsches outside the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
