Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the latest follow-up to one of the greatest video games of all-time, prompting the creation of some cool new content.

Those that have been into gaming at any point over the past nearly four decades are likely at least aware of the Final Fantasy franchise, a role playing game that has since spawned many sequels in the ensuing years. It has become one of the most successful video game franchises ever conceived, in fact, with Final Fantasy VII sticking out as perhaps the ultimate version – a game that quickly garnered praise for being one of the most groundbreaking titles and best all-around video games ever conceived.

Thus, as we celebrate the launch of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth – the latest sequel in that series – Porsche decided to team up with the developers of the game for a special short film called Driving Dreams, while also creating a unique 911 livery, to boot.

In this film, we get to see a pair of 911s – a 1997 993 (the same year FFVII came out) and a 2024 992 hit the streets of Tokyo with Square Enix Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, Producer Yoshinori Kitase, and Director Naoki Hamaguchi. During the clip, each discusses how they came up with the idea for one of the greatest video games of all time, back when such a thing didn’t even really exist.

In addition, a Porsche 911 sporting a special FF Rebirth livery is now on display at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles, while voice actors from the series were able to take that particular car for a spin around the development course, too.

“With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, just like with the original Final Fantasy VII, we began development with a dream to create something that would become the standard for storytelling in the next generation of games,” Kitase said. “Dreaming means overcoming many challenges, but it’s also a chance to create new possibilities. We share that willingness to reinvent and challenge established norms with our friends at Porsche.”

“At Porsche, we’re inspired by dreamers around the world – those who are driven by a desire to create change,” added Deniz Keskin, Director Brand Management & Partnerships at Porsche AG. “Few people embody that pioneering spirit quite like the creators of FFVII, who redefined the role-playing game genre and raised the bar for the video game art form to astonishing new heights.

On the eve of their latest highly anticipated release, we at Porsche salute the entire development team at Square Enix and continue to feel inspired by dreamers like them.”
