Porsche Celebrates 70 Years with Temporary Exhibition in Berlin
Porsche prototype 356-001 became road legal exactly 70 years ago. Now, the automaker is going all out to celebrate that critical moment!
Porsche, a brand ripe with history, seemingly has a reason to celebrate each and every year. But 2018 is extra special for the brand and its fans. Because 70 years ago, on June 8, 1948, the first Porsche prototype with chassis number 356-001 received its general operating permit. And thus, the brand was born. To celebrate this important milestone, Porsche is hosting a special exhibition dubbed “70 years of the Porsche Sports Car” in Berlin.
The temporary, interactive display runs through May 31 at the Drive exhibition space and is free to attend. It’s divided into 10 topics, each offering insights into the history of the brand. And each aims to tell the bigger story of how Porsche has evolved over the last 70 years. Not to mention the people behind it.
“The message of our exhibition is this: The spirit of innovation, which over 70 years has made Porsche into one of the world’s most profitable automotive manufacturer, will continue to drive a unique brand experience into the future,” says Achim Stejskal, Director of the Porsche Museum.
That story starts when you enter the exhibit and are greeted by a Porsche 356 “No.1” Roadster show car representing the “Origin of the sports car.” It then moves on to “Sports cars of the future,” featuring the Mission E concept. You’ll also lay eyes on the Irish Green one-millionth 911. And the very first Boxster in the “Sports cars, reinvented” section.
“The diversity of the sports car” section presents Porsche model lines and their contemporary advertisements. In the “Motor sport” section, you can’t help but notice the legendary “Pink Pig” 917/20 race car. Things all come to a head in the “Sports cars today” exhibit, where you’ll find the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. And Porsche dedicated “70 years of passion” to the employees who have made it all possible through the years.
The exhibit is just one of many celebrations Porsche has planned for this historic year. You can find more information on other upcoming exhibits by visiting the official Porsche Museum site.
