Recording an impressive quarter mile pass doesn’t take much when you’re driving a Porsche 997.2 Turbo!

As a general rule, you won’t find a ton of Porsches at the local drags. Such well-rounded vehicles are best suited to circuits, after all, where they can show off their excellent handling prowess. But this doesn’t mean that cars like the venerable 911 aren’t excellent dragsters in their own right. Just take this Porsche 997.2 Turbo, for example, which we heard about thanks to our good pals at 6SpeedOnline.

The 6Speed forums are chock full of incredibly fast, modified rides, but this particular Porsche 997.2 Turbo obviously peaked our interest. With a handful of mods, the owner, who goes by the user name ErikChich, was able to record a very impressive 9.89 second quarter mile pass. It took a good bit of experimenting with various tire pressures and launch techniques. But he finally cracked the 10-second barrier over at Atco Raceway in New Jersey.

The super quick Porsche was able to achieve the landmark result thanks to a few choice modifications. They include an Aquamist HFS-4 meth injection system, Turbosmart diverter valves, AMS intercoolers with Y-pipe, an IPD intake plenum, and a 3” catless Speedtech exhaust. With a full tune and a fresh set of Toyo R888 tires, the Porsche 997.2 Turbo was suddenly transformed into a respectable drag machine.
