Porsche 930 Duo Pack 700+ Air-Cooled HP Punch: Track Time Thursday Presented by Nitto NT05 Tire

It isn’t often that you see one pristine, highly modified Porsche 930 at the drags. But two showed up for one recent event.

Everyone has their own unique opinion on what the ultimate car might be. For most of us around these parts, it’s the Porsche 930. A dream ride for those who grew up in the ’80s, many of us had posters of Porsche’s famed 911 Turbo on our bedroom walls. We obsessed over the sound and the aesthetics of these cars. We dreamed of one day owning one. But in the case of two guys named Adam and Frank, they went one step further beyond just purchasing bone stock 930s.

YouTuber That Racing Channel spied the amazing Porsche 930 duo at the inaugural International Roll Racing Association (IRRA) event recently, and we’re sure glad they did. Because this dynamic duo represent far more than your “average” 930. In fact, both home built hot rods pack over 600-700 wheel horsepower!

Adam is the owner of the ’84 930, a car that he admittedly “bought as a basketcase and rebuilt from the ground up.” The heavily modified motor, which he also built himself, features goodies including ported heads, SC cams, and a big Garrett turbo, of course. Adam even fabricated the intercooler himself. Pretty much the only work he farmed out was the crankshaft/crank case machining. And the work is mighty impressive.

And then there’s Frank and his gorgeous (and even faster) ’87 Porsche 930. Another “ground up build,” Frank admits that he actually designed it for road racing. But he decided to get into roll racing because “it’s a lot of fun,” which we already knew. With Adam’s help, he stuffed the flat-six with Molly racing pistons, a GT40 turbo, ARP hardware, an MS3 EFI setup, and a MegaSquirt EFI controller. Over the course of his 12 years of owning the car, the admitted “horsepower junkie” has gradually cranked things up to 706 whp.

With prices skyrocketing, the odds of seeing one nicely done, high-horse Porsche 930 are pretty low these days. But seeing two in the same place? It’s like we’re back in our teenage bedrooms all over again.
