Battling a GT-R, the 911 Turbo S shows how exceptional and effective the Porsche Sport Response Button can be.

With so many events cancelled and postponed, racing and motorsports fans have had a bit of a disappointing season. While some racing events are moving forward, others are sorely missed. Porsche fans have had to get creative to get their hot laps. On the plus side, we’re getting some very cool closed and test track videos that show just how capable and powerful Porsche can be–both on the road and the track.

In this video by 888MF, a 2018 Porsche 991.2 Turbo S faces off with a Nissan GT-R. However, the real star of this video is the Porsche Sport Response Button (PSRB).

When employed, the PSRB gives 20 seconds of maximum acceleration, resulting in brutal take off power. It also allows the PDK gearbox to choose the best gear, and the turbochargers to overboost. In other words, it drops the hammer and how.

In one corner we have the Nissan GT-R. And it is a beauty. Tuned, the twin turbo 3.8-liter V6 has been boosted to produce a little over 700 hp. Beyond that advantage, the GT-R weighs about the same as the Porsche, and likewise sprints 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. It could be close.

As for the 991.2 Porsche Turbo S, it is running stock, which makes 580 hp. Sure, the GT-R has been a Porsche competitor over the years. But this ’18 model is just about perfect. And on the track, it was build to dominate. Uh, and it also has the benefit of a race car driver behind the wheel. So we’re feeling pretty confident.

The first drag race sees the Nissan take it. Mark–himself a huge Porsche enthusiast–is shocked.

“The GT-R smoked us!” he says. He speaks to the driver who sheepishly admits that she indeed forgot to press the sports response. But as they ready for the second race it seems clear that the PSRB will not be ignored.

Every doubt we had is gone in the second race. That simple button is the difference between a solid show of speed and power; and a rocket-like launch. After the PSRB is pushed, the Porsche takes off and leaves the GT-R as a speck in the rearview mirror.

Check it out below, and be sure to soak in that perfect Porsche exhaust note. Music to our ears.
