Porsche 911 SC received the backdate treatment from Rennline inside and out, along with a pretty sweet powertrain to boot.

While we certainly have love for the Porsche 911 SC, there was a time – not terribly long ago – when it was one of the more affordable 911 models out there. Some people simply didn’t like the car’s safety bumpers, in particular, but in recent years, the soaring values of earlier and later cars has helped Porsche 911 SC values skyrocket as well. However, that didn’t stop Rennline from giving this 1982 model – which recently crossed the block at Cars & Bids – its “backdate” treatment, which in this case combines some of the more desirable elements of various other 911 models.

Backdating is becoming more and more popular in the world of Porsche, but we typically see this kind of treatment on something like, say, a 996. However, in this case, the more desirable SC was made to look older than it actually is, thanks to the addition of 911 Carrera 2.7 RS bodywork and graphics, though the rest was modernized a bit with LED headlights and a skid plate, along with a set of 17-inch red-painted Fuchs-style wheels.

Even the interior received a Rennline backdate kit, including an older dashboard, Carrera RS-style door panels, and Vintage Seats Racing RS-style front bucket seats, which are complemented by some billet pieces, a short shifter, Dansk sun visors, and a carbon fiber trunk liner, to boot.

As for power, Rennline went in a totally different direction by giving this SC a turbocharged 3.4-liter flat-six from a 1989 911 Turbo, which is mated to the legendary G50 five-speed manual transmission. Suspension modifications are plentiful as well, and include 993 911 Turbo brakes and a host of Rennline components including the control arms, a strut tower brace, and bushings, to name just a few.

While we’re obviously fans of the Porsche 911 SC, we can certainly see why someone might want to transform theirs into one a tribute of sorts to the iconic and rather valuable Carrera 2.7 RS. In this case, Rennline took things a step further with one of the more iconic powertrains in 911 history as well, which makes this one seriously cool package – not to mention one that raked in a respectable $113k at auction, though that wasn’t enough to meet reserve.
