Porsche 911 Driver’s Fun Day at the Autobahn Goes up in Flames

Porsche 911

Remember, kids, wet roads and high speeds can be a dangerous combo.

Most of us have only dreamed of blasting along the legendary Autobahn in our Porsches, speed limits be damned. After all, that’s why the road itself is famous. And high-speed grand touring is exactly what the Porsche 911 is made for, which is why people from around the world flock to Germany’s most popular roadway every year.

Also, despite the speed demons it attracts, the Autobahn is also a very safe road. That’s because most people tend to drive very safely there, even at speeds that would get an American traffic cop way too excited. But accidents still happen. And much like our speed-limited roads here in the U.S., they typically happen when people drive too fast for the conditions they are facing.

Porsche 911

That’s exactly what went down when one Porsche 911 driver decided to go on a high-speed Autobahn run recently. According to German news outlet Bild, the incident took place on the Autobahn 8 near Augsburg on July 24. Police say that the driver “accelerated too much” on the damp roadway, and claim his “excessive speed” caused the rear end to get loose and crash into a concrete median.

The  driver was able to exit and call for help. Sadly, morons on the road blocked the emergency lane, which held up the fire truck, and the Porsche burned to a crisp.

The sheer impact set the rear of the 911 ablaze, but thankfully, the driver wasn’t hurt. In fact, he was able to exit the car and call for help. Sadly, however, other morons on the road blocked the emergency lane, which held up the fire truck. And because of that delay, the Porsche burned to a crisp before they could get there.

It’s a sad story, but one that reminds us of two important lessons. One, don’t ever overestimate your driving skill or underestimate the impact of weathered roads. And most importantly, don’t ever be the tool who gets in the way of an emergency response vehicle.
