Porsche 911 Celebrates 55 Years of Excellence with New Exhibit
Oregon’s World of Speed museum is rounding up a slew of special Porsche 911 road cars and racers for an event beginning April 28.
While countless other automotive models have come and gone, the Porsche 911 soldiers on, stronger than ever. Even as consumers leave cars behind in favor of trucks and SUVs. Even through a number of oil and financial crises. Nothing, it seems, can kill our fascination with the Porsche 911. And now, as the legendary sports car prepares to celebrate 55 years in existence, the World of Speed Motorsports Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon, is preparing a special exhibit to celebrate that milestone.
Porsche 911: 55 Years of Driving Greatness kicks off on April 28, 2019 with a special display of some of the model’s most iconic iterations. The lineup, as of now, will include models from virtually every generation of the 911, both road cars and racers. All in an effort to honor the timeless automotive icon. As of now, that includes a 1967 911 S, 1979 Momo 935, and the 1980 935 Brumos #0028 racer.
Those iconic models will be joined by many others, of course. That includes a 1982 SC Racer, 1988 Turbo Targa, 1988 930 S Cabriolet, a 997 GT3 RSR Flying Lizard, 2012 GT3 RS4, and a 2016 911 R. And that’s just the ones that have been confirmed as of now. The museum expects to have many more unique and interesting examples of the Porsche 911 from its illustrious history.
It might not be as big a deal as Porsche’s 50th just a few years ago, obviously. But we feel like a car as special as the Porsche 911 deserves to be celebrated as often as possible. Heck, we do it virtually on a daily basis. Thus, you can bet we’ll be making plans to visit World of Speed this coming spring!
