Though it may seem minor, damage underneath the battered exterior was so severe that this Nürburgring taxi was written off entirely.

The Nürburgring is certainly not a racetrack known for being easy to drive. Many professional and very experienced drivers have crashed there. Stretching nearly 13 miles, the Nürburgring certainly leaves plenty of chances to mess up. As one might expect, it happens a whole lot. In fact, there are even a handful of YouTube channels that solely cover Nürburgring crashes. Undoubtedly, it’s a part of motorsport that all drivers accept as a possibility when they get behind the wheel.

Misha Charoudin is an instructor at Apex Nürburg, and was instructing a student in a Porsche Cayman that he partly owns. He practically “lives” at the Nürburgring and has plenty of experience driving the world-famous course. So when the student ended up running his “pretty penny” ‘ring taxi, The damage looked a lot worse than it felt.

However, he gave the gruesome details on the total cost of repair in a video posted to his YouTube channel. While the exterior damage doesn’t seem too bad at first glance, it is financially devastating underneath.

“Lots of things have been torn off. The trailing arms, the steering rack. This is where the most damage lies because, again, the impact was close to 200 kilometers per hour,” said Charoudin.

“Obviously, the fenders, the door as well, is damage. The rear as well, the rear suspension components. The wheel is completely destroyed. Also, underneath, because the car was jumping over the curbs. I’ve seen the damage report, and I will go over it with you in a bit. The exhaust, the catalytic converters. Lots of things underneath have been damaged,” he continues.

After giving an overview of the damage, he pulls out the appraisal paperwork and gives exact numbers on how much this seemingly minor damage would cost to repair.

Now, obviously, any Porsche crash is expensive. However, the damage to this particular Cayman still seems relatively minor from the outside. That illusion is sufficiently broken, though, when you see the seven-page list of repairs needed.

“On the first page of the seven-page list of parts that need replacing, we can already see Vorderwagen, which is the front crash structure. 25,000 Euro on the Cayman because the chassis has been bent in four different points and this needs replacing,” says Charoudin

The list goes on and on with numbers rapidly stacking. Though, he is a bit surprised that the headlight assembly only costs 1,000 Euros. So, at least he can take solace in that! The frightening number truly hits the hardest in the form of the total cost of repair, including both parts and labor.

The final total of the repair bill comes in at an astonishing €97,841.36. If you don’t feel like finding yourself an exchange rate calculator, don’t worry, we’re here to tell you that it works out to around $114,000 in US Dollars. Ouch.

Considering the impact speed works out to around 125 miles per hour, it’s remarkable that the car’s condition isn’t even worse than it is. Thankfully, though, the occupants of the car are both safe. While it certainly wasn’t a cheap accident, it could have cost a lot more than money if not for the safety crash barriers and build quality of this Cayman.
