Limited to just 70 pieces, Porsche Design Chronograph 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition timepiece is also an homage to Porsche Club of America.

Porsche is 70 years old in 2018. And that means that this has been a year of celebration for Stuttgart’s finest. But if you don’t have the funds for a new 911 GT3 RS or a Speedster Concept tribute, fear not. If you’re a Porsche Club of America (PCA) member, you can wear a little bit of history on your wrist. Say hello to the Porsche Design Chronograph 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition timepiece.

For those of you who are unfamiliar, Porsche Design is no cynical marketing offshoot. It can trace its roots back to 1972 when Dr. Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, designer of the 911, created the company to tackle the brand’s non-automotive design pursuits. That year, the brand made history by launching the world’s first all-black chronograph: The P6510. So, like the 911 itself, the Porsche Design Chronograph 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition has Porsche roots that stretch back decades.

As the name suggests, the 70Y Sportwagen PCA Edition is only available to Porsche Club of America members. Limited to just 70 pieces, the exclusive timepiece rings up at $9,911, and it’s a lot of watch for the money. Powered by the brand’s first ever in-house movement, the Porsche Design Werk 01.200, the automatic watch is COSC certified. Considering that just 3% of all Swiss watches earn this distinction, you can be sure that it’s one of the finest chronographs in the world.

‘We truly value our relationship with PCA. Their continued commitment and passion was our inspiration in developing this exclusive timepiece for their members.’

Of course, this being a chronograph, you’re encouraged to use it to time your laps on the track. That’s easy to do with its black titanium-carbide coating, white markers, and bold contrasting red hands, a long-time Porsche Design hallmark. And with its 42mm size and titanium case, it’s both easy to read and makes a statement.

But for us, the best part about this watch is its rotor, which is visible through the sapphire case back. Dubbed the “Fuchsfelge,” it’s designed to recall the 911’s iconic Fuchs alloy wheels, which are coincidentally celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.

In a nod to PCA members, the watch’s strap is black leather and Alcantara with Club Blau and Guards Red stitching, a nod to the club crest. Unsurprisingly, the club couldn’t be happier with the watch. “Porsche Design has created a technical masterpiece specifically for our members to celebrate Porsche’s 70th anniversary,” says Vu Nguyen, PCA Executive Director. “Akin to the cars we covet, it honors tradition while offering advanced technology.”

And Porsche Design was happy to honor one of the oldest and most popular automotive clubs in the world.

“It is inspiring to see devoted Porsche enthusiasts gathering to express their appreciation for the brand,” says Dr. Jan Becker, CEO of Porsche Design. “Porsche is universally important to so many people, which is why Porsche Club of America exists. We truly value our relationship with PCA. Their continued commitment and passion was our inspiration in specially developing this exclusive timepiece for their members.”

So, if you’re a PCA member and want a piece of history on your wrist, head over to Porsche Design. and place an order here. Future owners will receive their watches during a ceremony celebrating the 70th anniversary of Porsche sports cars at the 2018 Porsche Rennsport Reunion VI, happening Sept. 27-30 at Laguna Seca.
