New 992 911 Turbo S: What Do People Really Think of It?
We take a deep-dive into the YouTube comments to see what folks across the Internet think of the latest pinnacle of Turbo 911s.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the top of the non-GT 911 totem pole. Many people regard these cars to be the best money can buy. Their performance rivals that of much more expensive supercars, but does so in a package that is a lot more subtle. There is reason that Porsche hasn’t changed the overall silhouette of the 911 since the original 901. The shape just works. Somehow, Porsche manages to keep making this car look better and better. We might say this isn’t that hard to do when you have such a good looking platform from the start.
Not to mention for the new 992 Turbo S, but it now makes 640 HP. That’s the biggest horsepower jump between any 911 Turbo generation, ever. That’s 69 extra brake horsepower and it shows. The acceleration times are down to 2.7 seconds for the 0-to-60 mph run. Many of us know that these figures are usually a bit on the conservative side, so don’t be surprised to see this 992 somewhere closer to 2.4-5 in the real world. All of this is thanks to the new engine featured in the 992 Turbo S. This 3.8L twin-turbo flat-six is the most advanced and efficient Porsche has ever built. However, we are curious to see people’s reactions towards the car and the video. While the video is short and sweet, the comments are long and various. With well over 500 comments on the video, we think we will do a lighthearted exploration of some of them. Let’s get into it.
One of the top comments on the video was “The only thing I don’t like about this car, is that I can’t afford it.” We in part agree, the Turbo S is far from an affordable car, let alone an affordable luxury car. However, there isn’t anything else that can provide the performance package that is this vehicle at the same price point. Thus, we also liked one of the responses to this very comment, “Don’t say “I can’t afford” instead ask yourself “How can I afford it?”
Another commenter stated “the reliability of this car and the fun factor make it the one of the best sports luxury car that money could buy. Plus the residual value of Porsche’s is comparable to none.” Maybe we should have just looked at the comments for inspiration for this article. Obviously, there is definitely a healthy selection of Porsche fans there across the internet. We will agree, that Porsche’s residual value is among the highest and something to consider if the car is on your list.
Finally, we found this comment. “When Porsche themselves claim that their car will do 0-62 in 2.7 second, knowing how conservative they tend to be… That’s scary. What a machine.” Then there was this reply, “Yeah, if you look at the numbers the Turbo S has to be considered a supercar, albeit a relatively practical one and daily usable. That’s what makes it so desirable in my eyes, apart from the ridiculous performance.” We aren’t sure if we could have put this in better words.
