Oh, Mr. Regular, don’t ever change.

In his own inimitable and extraordinary way, Mr. Regular and his Regular Car Reviews have been providing some of the most entertaining and informative auto videos around. And the 928 review video below is no exception.

Surprisingly, Mr. Regular found himself a fairly regular 928 for this review too, a beat-upon and well-travelled 1987 S4. As is his MO, Mr. Regular uses the car to frame the entire history of the model, albeit in a way you’ve never heard before.

To paraphrase, back in the mid-’80s, “King Ferdinand” and his Porsche underlings were very worried about the 911 conforming to United States safety standards. So Porsche set about creating a new American flagship, and delivered the very non-traditional front-engine, rear-wheel drive, water-cooled 928. Or as Mr. Regular calls it, “Germany’s idea of what Americans desire.”

Alas, at the time, Americans seemed to know a bit more about what Americans desired. And most the folks who did buy the 928 tried to offload them as maintenance costs started climbing.

That is until recently, as 928s have started to make a bit of a comeback. And let’s be honest, the new Panamera certainly feels like a bit of an homage to the 928 as well.

Please enjoy the full vid below, and be sure to tell us what you think. But be warned, there’s some NSFW content and language.
