Mint Porsche Carrera GT Set to Cross the Auction Block
Beautiful example of a bygone era of performance is currently accepting bids at Barrett-Jackson through January 19.
Now that it’s been 14 years since the mighty Porsche Carrera GT graced this earth, we can truly say that it represents the end of a magical era. A time when cars didn’t employ things like traction control, a thousand cameras everywhere, and small, forced induction engines. The Carrera GT was a raw, in-your-face, truly visceral machine that demanded respect. And every time we see one, it makes us just a little misty-eyed for those very reasons.
You certainly won’t find many finer than this gorgeous GT Silver Metallic example currently accepting bids at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction. Number 851 of 1,270 produced, this particular car shows just 5,031 original miles across two owners. The spec on this particular Carrera GT is quite attractive, with an Ascot Brown interior providing a striking contrast to the timeless silver exterior. And even today, 14 years later, these cars look like they could have just rolled off the assembly line.
Despite the lack of modern tech, the Porsche Carrera GT still holds up performance-wise to the best supercars produced today, too. That glorious 5.7-liter, dual-overhead cam V10 provides 0-60 times in the mid 3-second range and a 200+ mph top speed. Even its ratings of 604 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque hold up well in this golden age of power. But nothing built today, shy of a small handful of exotics, can produce the kind of intoxicating noises this powerplant emits.
Even better, those impressive numbers are achieved with a proper 6-speed manual. It’s the sort of mix that has slowly given way to a new era in performance. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but we surely miss the days of raw cars like the Porsche Carrera GT. And seeing beautiful examples like this one don’t make things any easier on us!
