Luftgekühlt 6

Luftgekühlt 6 promises to be the best one yet as it brings air-cooled Porsche magic to iconic Hollywood movie sets.

Among the many notable Porsche events that take place around the world, Luftgekühlt is one of the newest. In fact, 2019 marks Luft’s sixth year on the scene, but it’s already become one of the very best Porsche gatherings in the world. The reasons for this are quite simple. For one, Luftgekühlt celebrates only air-cooled cars and nothing else. Secondly, it involves only carefully curated vehicles in some of the most unique and interesting settings on planet Earth.

That theme continues for Luftgekühlt 6, which takes place on May 11. This year’s location, chosen by creators Patrick Long, a two-time Le Mans class winner, and noted Southern California creative director Howie Idelson, is the Universal Studios Backlot in Hollywood, California. It’s a truly fascinating idea, one that involves iconic movie sets, including the Courthouse Square from Back to the Future, the Amityville waters of Jaws, and the infamous Bates motel from Psycho.

Air-cooled Porsches and movie backdrops seem to be a perfect pair on the surface. “Photographic composition and backdrops have always been the cornerstone of Luftgekühlt,” organizers point out. And since hanging out on these sets is typically limited only to special guests, it’s also a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone in attendance, not just those lucky enough to see their cars on display.
