L.A. Auto Show 2019: 2020 Porsche 718 GT4

Like a bright, happy, 414-horsepower ray of sunshine.

We’re live at the L.A. Auto Show. The Los Angeles Convention Center is positively packed with cool stuff, and we’re here to share the best new stuff straight from Stuttgart.

We snagged a few shots of the 2020 Porsche 718 GT4 for your viewing enjoyment. We’ll readily admit that this is the most production-ready version of the car we’ve seen yet.

Future 718 GT4 owners can expect to see their new cars in the spring. Until then, we’ll run through the specs one more time.

The GT4 is packing a 4.0 liter naturally-aspirated flat six with an 8,000 RPM redline. The engine develops 414 horsepower and 309 lb/ft of torque, sent through a six-speed manual transmission.

That will propel the 718 GT4 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds. Porsche states that the top speed is 188 miles per hour. Of particular interest to Porschephiles — the company states that this GT4 is a whole ten seconds faster around the Nürburgring than the previous model, released in 2016.

The transmission includes an automatic rev-matching feature that Porsche calls “Auto Blip.” In can be activated — or deactivated — at the push of a button. Buyers will be pleased to find a mechanial limited-slip differential out back, equipped with Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV).

The 718 GT4 features PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), as well as a 30mm lower ride height when compared to other 718s. Camber, toe, ride height, and sway bar settings are all manually adjustable.

The front axle was adapted from the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3, while the rear axle is unique to the GT4. The 911 GT3 also lends it brakes to the 718 GT4; Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB) are an option.

The 2020 Porsche 718 GT4 starts at $99,200, and the company began accepting orders in late June. While it may be too late to get on the list for your own GT4, you can at least feast your eyes on this one.

If you want to get up close and personal with the 718 GT4 — as well as everything else at the L.A. Auto Show — it runs from Friday, November 22 through Sunday, December 1.
