Does Impending All-Turbo 911 Lineup Make the Porsche 997 a Collector’s Item?

This one is for the purists. As the years have passed, and as automotive technology has progressed, the sports car segment has become more and more precise. Engines are more power-efficient, aerodynamics are more slippery, and car brains are smarter and quicker. But most recently, another variable has become increasingly important: emissions. As a benchmark in the sports car world, yes, even the Porsche 911 has been affected.

Referring to the announcement that almost all of the next line of 911s (except the GT3) will have forced induction, as well as the increased use of the lightning-fast PDK, Rennlist user alexb76 makes the claim that the Porsche 997 is the last truly undiluted 911. He states in the post:

“997: Last generation of hydrolic steering
997 GT3/Turbo: Last Generation of Manual super sports car
991: Last generation of naturally aspirated cars!

To me, 997 is the LAST Porsche that is “more mechanical than electronic”, and the balance tipped on the other side AFTER 991..

In 10-20 years, naturally aspirated mechanical cars would be almost non-existant and these cars and the way they drive, feel, ride, handle, and SOUND will be RARE and hence I think 997 in all trims would be a great car to hold on to!”

Never mind his spelling of hydraulic, he might have a point. What do you think?
