992.2 GT3 (What Do We Know?)
Hi there,
I know there are several mules and spy shots of what is believed to be the 992.2 GT3 (& Touring variant)… however does anyone know any ‘cleaning lady’ gossip about the changes expected?
Most importantly…
- A: NA or Turbo / Electric Charged?
- B: Likely release date?
- C: Any material changes?
(I’m aware there was a thread about someone saying they would hate to be a 992.1 GT3 owner (which I am)… because of what is coming in the 992.2… but that thread very quickly went off topic… so hoping we can gather some info and gossip here)
Thanks in advance for your input…

I'll stand by my friendly bet for 992.2 GT vehicles - I'll be proven wrong/right in due time…but let's be clear - this is just a friendly lark - while I kill time on my flight to germany.
what would be more interesting is an expected announcement date for 992.x 911's - and when GT cars will follow - 2024 992.2 "normal" 911's - 2025 Turbo, 2026 GT?

1999.8 996.1 GT3
2003.3 996.2 GT3
2006.2 997.1 GT3
2009.3 997.2 GT3
2013.3 991.1 GT3
2017.3 991.2 GT3
2021.2 992.1 GT3
2025 992.2 GT3
2029 next generation GT3
In conclusion, the 992.2 GT3 will launch in 2025 as a 2026 model year.
I got a reliable source from a VVIP that next generation is likely a 4.2. I also don't see how much more Porsche can improve the 992.2 GT3 without a 4.2. They will further increase aero, but they can't shed more weight or modify the entire chassis or add too much RS bits, so increasing HP is the only way I see going. Or else its just another 992.1 GT3 with a bit of exterior facelift which will hurt the Porsche brand. Even their GT3/GTE racecars are all 4.2 at this point since 2019, its the only way to go before they turn hybrid in the 2029 GT3. EU's Euro 7 mandated no pure ICE cars being built post 2030 so its highly likely Porsche won't further develop a pure ICE GT3 in the next generation, the performance gap is already so big it needs hybrid to compete. Don't be fooled by AP's past statements as most Rennlisters already can tell he is being contradictory to fend off speculations. He stated too many things can't be done due to regulation or cost but still made them in the next generation...
Also no debate on the analog tach....

If they give us the RS engine (my guess), we’ll get 2 of the 3 above (RS loses a few foot-pounds).
They’ll probably tune it for 520PS (instead of 525PS in RS and S/T).
S/T’s Manual gearing would pair perfectly (and make more than current torque to the ground in same gear).

as an owner of the Taycan and knowing that they've made this change for the '24 Cayenne (an evolved version of the Taycan digital dash) - I think the GT series will be the last to "lose" the analog Tach -
so $1 friendly bet - no "digital" Dash for the .2 GT 911's - maybe other non-GT 911's - but the 992.2 GT series vehicles will retain their analog tach…
emphasis on the "friendly".

I have seen plenty of Carrera mules with an all digital dash so I think it is safe to say that all 992.2 models other than GT cars, will now have an all digital dash.
Historically, the GT department uses 95% of the Carrera interior. For the 992.1 AP changed the display dashboard software, not hardware.
he did change the gear shift lever to proper gear shift thankfully for the 992.1 GT cars.
Changing the hardware on the dashboard is much harder and harder to do for smaller volume cars. I really hope the 992.2 GT cars keep the 992.1 dash, but I’m not ready to wager money on it.
that said, an argument could be made for the GT department to continue building/buying their dashboards for the .2 generation from wherever they come now for the 992.1 generation.
I think the best case scenario is that the 992.2 GT car dash looks the same as the 992.1, and maintains the analog tachometer.
However, I definitely expect the 994.1 GT cars to to have an all digital dash …..unfortunately.

Regarding 992.2 GT car predictions.
I agree re hybrid. I think that will first come to Carreras/turbos.
if any 992.2 GT cars get a hybrid however, it would be the RS, not GT3.
I still think the 992.2 RS will get the 4.2L engine from the RSR.
I’m less certain about the 992.2 GT3.
Though, historically Porsche has increased GT3 engine displacement with the mid cycle refresh.
997.1 to 997.2 GT3 engine size increased from 3.6 to 3.8L
991.1 to 991.2 GT3 engine size increased from 3.8 to 4.0L
Porsche might still give us a 4.2L in the 992.2 GT3.
They could do that for the GT3 and then add a tune of the same engine and mild hybrid for the 992.2 RS models.
