Cayenne Turbo GT

4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with 631 horsepower in an SUV. Nürburgring Nordschleife official SUV lap record of 7:38.9 minutes. Happy Porsche Thanksgiving! In this day and age having an SUV with a fire breathing V8 engine doesn’t make much sense. And that is exactly why we love it. The Cayenne Turbo GT is the quickest, and fastest production Cayenne ever offered by Porsche. This is a full-bore sports car trapped in an SUV body. From the engine up front to the titanium exhaust out back and the Alcantara in the middle, the Cayenne Turbo GT is all about performance. It might not be sensible but sometimes we just need a little whimsy from Porsche, and this is it.

New Macan

It was announced this year that the best-selling Porsche model was going to receive a host of updates for the 2022 model year. The biggest news is that the top dog Turbo was going to be dropped but all other models would be seeing a significant power increase. The GTS will take the top spot from the Turbo and will now come with the 434 horsepower 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6. The interior of the Macan has also been revamped across the line. If you loved all those physical buttons on the center console, bad news, they are gone. Haptic touch elements now bring the Macan more in line with the other models in the Porsche lineup. The newest Macan is the best yet and we thank Porsche for improving on an already outstanding small SUV.

Cayman GT4 RS

Wow. Do I really need to say anything else? The Cayman GT4 RS has been unveiled and it is the thing we have been dreaming about since the first Cayman debuted fifteen years ago. The 9,000-rpm screaming 4.0L flat six from the GT3 is placed in the middle of the Cayman. OK, so it is PDK-only but who cares? This car is peak Cayman. And even a base Cayman is a terrific sports car. There has been much written recently already about the GT4 RS so there is no need to rehash it all again here. It is brilliant and it has made our Porsche Thanksgiving.

So, there you have it. This is what Porsche fans are thankful for this year. It is quite a list. A few months ago, I wrote a piece where I tried to decide which Porsche model year was the best of the century. I ultimately selected 2004 as the best year based on the bevy of amazing cars that were out that year. But looking at the list above it would be hard to argue against 2021 as perhaps taking the top spot if I were to re-write that piece today. Porsche has a multitude of desirable cars out right now. But there is a problem. A big problem…

Joe has been obsessed with cars since he got his very first Matchbox toy in the ‘70s. In 2003, he found a new obsession in track days that led to obtaining his SCCA competition license in 2015. In 2019, he became a certified driving instructor for the National Auto Sport Association. His love for all things four wheels has never wavered, whether it's driving some of the best cars in the world on the racetrack, tackling 2,000-mile road trips in 2-seat sports cars or being winched off the side of a mountaintop in a Jeep. Writing for the suite of Internet Brands Auto Communities sites, including Rennlist.com, Ford Truck Enthusiasts, 6 Speed and more allows him to share that knowledge and passion with others.
