GT4 Enjoys Amazing First Track Day: Track Time Tuesday Presented by Yokohama Tire’s ADVAN APEX
Months after acquiring his 2016 Cayman GT4, one YouTuber knocks out a few laps in Connecticut, finds his old tires lacking.
Track days and Porsches go together like peanut butter and chocolate (or jelly). Every weekend, you’re bound to see some of Stuttgart’s finest tear it up at your local circuit. Usually, they’re 911s of more recent vintages. They’re certainly the go-to for laying down the best laps of the day. However, there are other Porsches equally capable of making track days an adventure, like the GT4.
Back in 2015, Porsche delivered two of its most hardcore Caymans ever, two model years before the fourth-gen 718 Cayman arrived. The hardest of them all, the GT4 Clubsport, put down 380 horses through the PDK. Manual fans, though, had the six-speed GT4 to fling around. YouTuber Matthew “CoderMan” Keefe picked up a 2016 GT4 a few months ago. Now, he’s ready to take it on its first track day.
“Had the chance to take the GT4 on track, and of course, I jumped at the opportunity,” wrote Keefe in the video description. “To say this car was built for the track is an understatement. The turn in, the grip, the suspension, the seats and even the size all create the perfect track weapon.”
Amid all of the Corvettes, Camaros, and even a random race car, Keefe had a grand time with his GT4 around Thompson Speedway in Thompson, Connecticut. His best time arrived at the end of the day, crossing the line in 1:29.50. But what did he think of his first time with the GT4, though?
“Other than a couple of small little things on the paint […] this car did absolutely amazing,” said Keefe. “I shaved about 10 seconds off of my first lap to my second-to-final lap. I found that this car is so different from the M3 when it comes to tracks […] everything about this car screams driving on a freakin’ track.”
The only problem? The Bridgestones. Though they held up for most of the day, they were done by the time Keefe headed home. Thus, as a self-proclaimed Michelin man, he’ll likely run Pilot Sport Cup 4s on his next track day with the GT4; he should, however, consider some Yokohama ADVAN APEXes.
