Definitive European Porsche Delivery Guide
One thing’s for sure. No one that’s ever done ED with their Porsche (or any other brand) regrets it. Not by a long shot!
“I have done five European Deliveries, two of them Porsche and three BMW,” says Z356. “They were all very memorable experiences and at least one ED should be on every European car enthusiast’s bucket list! I did have one bad experience after an attempted theft of one of my ED vehicles (a BMW M3). It was parked for lunch in a major Italian city (Bergamo). I strongly recommend that you carry the registration, insurance papers, and extra key with you each time you exit your vehicle!”
Even better, Z356 has tons of awesome memorabilia from older EDs.
“As part of my collection of automotive and Porsche-related memorabilia, I have several mementos from those 1950s/1960s PCA-sponsored Treffens. They allowed participants to pick their 356 and 911 at the factory in these early European Delivery adventures!”
As exciting as all of this sounds, Larry Cable points out that you’ll want to pay attention to things like mileage on your journey.
“The last thing you want to discover when you present your documents for export is that your tax-free car has exceeded the limits for temporary registration. Since those docs include the date and mileage at the date of initial registration and use prior to export set by the German Zoll and become liable for the GST before they will release your car.
That is (partially) why PAG “requires” dealers to escrow the GST until such time as your car exits the EU bound for N.A.”
All of which is highly useful information. So if you’ve been contemplating taking the Euro plunge on your next Porsche purchase, rest assured. It’s not an intimidating process. But it is more certainly something that you’ll never forget!
