Could a Two-Door Panamera Coupe Be a 928 in Disguise?

If you’ve been missing the 928 since production halted in 1995, then you may be in luck. Well, if you’re into the Panamera that is.

We know the Panamera’s styling has ruffled a few feathers in the automotive world, but wouldn’t it look a lot cooler with two doors? Come to think of it, wouldn’t it look a bit like the 928?

Well, we may get a chance to see just how cool such a car would be, if we’re to correctly decipher the tea leaves dropped by Porsche North America CEO Klaus Zellmer. In a recent conversation with the newly instated Zellmer, Motor1 found out that the coupe and convertible based Panameras “are the models that Americans want most, even more than sport-utility vehicles.”

And I don’t know if you’ve been following the story of Capitalism lately, but what wealthy Americans want, wealthy Americans generally get.

So where does all this 928 talk come from then? Well, none other than Road & Track is making such a bold comparison: “A front-engined, rear-wheel-drive coupe based on the Panamera—and the convertible that would probably follow—sounds a lot like a Porsche 928 revival if you ask us.”

So though it might not be called as much, the next generation Panamera (which we recently spied) could be a lot more interesting than previously expected.
