Have you ever imagined a 911 as a flamingo? CGI artist Chris Labrooy has, and you can buy some of his stunning works of art.

You are reading an article on largest online resource for Porsche enthusiasts in the world. It is safe to say you are a fan of the brand. Like many Porsche fans we like to decorate our garages, homes and offices with Porsche art. The standard fare of Porsche posters is enough for some. There are countless Porsche winning Le Mans posters to get your decorating started. For others, they move beyond that, and they want a realistic portrait of their own Porsche to display. On the other end of the spectrum are the folks that want something a little more unusual. Sometimes you need something that could only come from the mind of a CGI artist. As Monty Python would say. And now for something completely different.

How completely different? How about a silver 993 sitting on top of a bent palm tree? Is that a little too traditional for you? How about a Porsche on Mars? Maybe a 911 with a flamingo head poking out of the windshield is what you were looking for? If you want something that is utterly unique, you need to become familiar with Scotland-based artist Chris Labrooy. Labrooy and his amazing works of art are featured in the latest installment of 9:11 Magazine.

His dream as a young man was to design cars. He didn’t go down that path but as a CGI artist he has a lot more flexibility and freedom to design what he wants. He wants his art to convey happy feelings. “I am always trying to search for those moments of happiness. Something like an inflatable flamingo or a swimming pool symbolizes happiness.” Says Labrooy. We think he is on to something there. It is impossible to look at his work and not feel a smile spread across your face.

So why cars, and why Porsche in particular? Labrooy says that he has been interested in cars since he was a small boy. He has owned four different Porsche cars so far. His current ride is a 718 Cayman GTS. He likes to get up early on the weekends and take it for a drive around the stunning roads in Scotland. Getting his first Porsche hooked Labrooy on the brand. Labrooy explains: “It wasn’t until I owned the Porsche that the brand actually started to get under my skin a little bit. As I got older and started to be in a position to buy my own sports car, it was a Porsche that I chose.”

When making his images, Labrooy sees the cars as actors. Naturally, he sees the Porsche 911 as an A-list Hollywood actor. “It can play a comedy role, but it can also play a villain. It is so versatile it has this personality that can adapt to all these types of different situations.” Says Labrooy. We think anyone that has owned a 911 can see where he is coming from. It can be a daily driver for a small family, a track day weapon, a show car or a collectible. The 911 is probably one of the most versatile cars the world has ever seen.

We love the art that Labrooy creates. It is a refreshing change of pace from all of the standard Porsche art that tends to be on the more serious side. This is a light-hearted and unique look at our favorite brand. Let us know how you feel about these creations on the Rennlist forums.

Joe has been obsessed with cars since he got his very first Matchbox toy in the ‘70s. In 2003, he found a new obsession in track days that led to obtaining his SCCA competition license in 2015. In 2019, he became a certified driving instructor for the National Auto Sport Association. His love for all things four wheels has never wavered, whether it's driving some of the best cars in the world on the racetrack, tackling 2,000-mile road trips in 2-seat sports cars or being winched off the side of a mountaintop in a Jeep. Writing for the suite of Internet Brands Auto Communities sites, including Rennlist.com, Ford Truck Enthusiasts, 6 Speed and more allows him to share that knowledge and passion with others.
