GT3 Cup set a new world record time even though it was built in less than a month.

If you are a fan of racing, you have heard of the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Even if you don’t like racing, you have probably heard of Pikes Peak. It is by far the most famous and recognizable Hill Climb event in the world. It is the sport’s equivalent to the Monaco GP for Formula One. As a result, it’s no surprise, that this race has over a century of history. The 2019 year marked the race’s 97th edition, making it one the most on-going races of all time. The race itself brings out a host of cars throughout the world try to reach the 14,110 foot summit and you better believe there are some stunning builds.

The folks over at renown California-based Porsche tuning shop BBi Autosport were confident that they could get their own car up on the mountain to compete. And thanks to Hoonigan teaming up with BBi, we get to see their project come to life. Did we mention the car was built in 30 days? You’ll be amazed by what some pros can do in that little time.

The day before the race, the weather showed some rain and some potential bad conditions. The mountain is known to be very unstable when it comes to weather. However, BBi made sure that they got the right person for the job. Piloting the car up the mountain is Raph Astier, long time rally driver and hill climb expert. A rally driver’s expertise is being able to adjust according to the inconsistency of the road and even though Pikes Peak is now 100% paved, you never know what the course is going to throw at you.

As the time approached for the team’s run, tension begins to build. They only get one shot to do this right and with around 9 to 10 minutes of straight driving time and over 150 corners, there is a lot of chances for error. The gearbox as well as the engine and coolant are warmed up and the car is ready to be sent out. Final time? 9:23.721. That’s good enough for a 1st place in the Time Attack 1 Class and 2nd place overall along with a new world record. Not only did the team meet expectations, they blew them out of the park.
