Auto Express Pits 911 GT3 RS Versus Cayman GT4 at Silverstone
This is one of the all-time great track battles that I have wanted to see for a while now. It is Porsche’s race-ready 911 GT3 RS lined up against the Cayman GT4. You and I know that the 911 is faster, and the video makes no secret of that fact either, noting the cars weigh almost the same, but the 911 has 100 more horsepower, a PDK transmission, extra aero goodies and carbon brakes.
But that is not the point of this battle. The Cayman is half the cost of the 911, so is the GT3 RS twice as good to drive? Is the best driver’s car in Porsche’s stable actually the Cayman? To answer these questions, Auto Express headed off to Silverstone, a track big enough and fast enough to really stretch these two cars out. After just a handful of warm-up laps, both cars were thrown through the course to set a lap time.
The expected result is that the 911 was faster, but it was just a hair over 3 seconds faster across a 60-plus second lap. All in, Auto Express never gives a square answer about which car is better, but they do clarify that despite looking so close to each other on paper, there is a massive difference between each machine when it comes to the experience of driving.
