A Porsche 959 on Craigslist?!
At an asking price of $1,250,000, I think we can safely say ‘no lowballers.’Â
There’s always been a clear distinction between buying a project car on Craigslist and a blue-chip investment car from a prestige dealer or auction house. That said, you can find just about anything on Craigslist if you look hard enough. If you’re willing to put up with misspelled words, cryptic listings, upside-down photos, incorrectly-entered VINs, and the occasional thumb-blocked license plate, you can usually find what you’re looking for.
This Porsche 959 we found on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon defies that convention. Of course, almost all of the Craigslist hallmarks are there…a vague title, occasionally poor spelling, a bad VIN, and a few upside down photos. That said, this ad sets itself apart with a detailed description and a ton of decent-quality photos, and the VIN issue doesn’t seem like a scam to us, just a classic case of someone confusing a “0” with an “O”. But a mega-rare 959 on Craigslist? It like something straight out of a Portlandia sketch.
As for the car itself, it’s a 1988 959 Comfort in the classic silver over burgundy color combo. With less than 7,000 miles on the clock, it was serviced by Porsche Classic and presents very well. The indoor photos under fluorescent light don’t do the car any favors, but that’s good news for a potential buyer, and it doesn’t appear to be hiding anything.
If you look closely, there’s some interesting stuff going on in the background, too…at least two Land Rover Defenders, a Lancia Delta S4, and an Alpine A110. Rallying, and the Group B era in particular, seem to be the focus of this owner’s collection. In short, this 959 comes from a good home, and it’s had all of its shots. Still, while this is Craigslist, we don’t suggest you offer to trade your modded Xbox, Civic Si hatch, or “bangs” for this 959.
