993 Turbo S Is the Last Air Cooled Porsche, and One of the Best Cars Ever Built

When I was growing up, there were few cars that captivated me quite as much as the 993. So much so to the point that my dad promised me to buy me one after I graduated college. He made this promise when I wasn’t even a teenager, but to this day I have never forgotten it. Although I graduated college many years ago, I still don’t have a 993 in my garage. I remind him about his promise and he says he hasn’t forgotten, so I’ll keep pushing him until I see the keys to a 993.
Why is the 993 generation so captivating? In my opinion, it is everything Porsche could ever do right on a car. The design, the aesthetic, the driving experience, there is not a single factor where it doesn’t shine. The legacy of the car is unmistakable, it is the last air-cooled vehicle to be produced by Porsche, marking the end of an era. Thanks to TheSUPERCARDRIVER‘s YouTube channel, we are able to take a look at an immaculate example of one of these stunning Porsches.
The 993 presented in this video is owned by Lakeside Classics in the UK and is currently for sale. The car is an extremely rare example, as only 345 were produced and only 35 were ever made right-hand drive. 450 HP from a turbocharged 3.6L flat-six and a sub-4 second 0-to-60 time is no joke by today’s standards and this car was released over 20 years ago.
The color of this Turbo S is Black Metallic with a Black Hide full leather interior and even though it maintains a stealthy profile it is equally as beautiful as the brighter colors. According to the sale post, it has also extremely low miles at only 17,000, meaning it has only seen a couple of oil changes in its time. Extensive history and maintenance records also come with the car.
This 993 Turbo S is through and through a collector’s car and would be a spotlight in any Porsche collection. Its current for sale price is also set according to the rare quality and limited availability of the vehicle, which currently sits around $424,000 US dollars. While this is not cheap by any standard, we feel that the price is understandable, seeing how hot the 993 market currently is.
While we are happy that people are valuing these cars a lot, we are also sad because every day these timeless iconic Porsches get more and more out of reach for us passionate, but less financially fortunate folk. I really hope my dad makes some big bucks soon, I’ll be waiting for my 993 until then.
