2024 Porsche Cayenne Gets V8 and a Facelift
Despite the world heading towards total electrification, the 2024 Porsche Cayenne will get a V8 and a few style tweaks.
With pressure increasing on automakers everywhere to conform to an all-electric lineup, the new Porsche Cayenne unveiled at the Shanghai auto show will still have a V8 option. Porsche’s flagship SUV (and second best selling model) will remain largely unchanged on the outside, but it’s the inside of the spicy German that matters most. The Cayenne’s interior will take a “digital first” approach, meaning that top tier technology will be more prevalent than previous years.
Taking a page from Porsche’s only EV, the Taycan, a 12.6 inch curved touchscreen sits at the center of the dashboard. As an add on, a potential buyer can have an additional 10.5 inch screen installed for the passenger’s side, giving those riding shotgun access to media and temperature controls. Borrowed from the latest 911 models is the steering wheel that’s designed to put driver controls and important vehicle information at the driver’s fingertips.
As far as powertrain options, Porsche will offer the Cayenne in three different powertrain configurations. The most popular configuration, the turbocharged 3.0 liter V6, has been retuned to make 348 horsepower — 13 horsepower more than last year’s model. Porsche will also be adding a six-cylinder E-Hybrid setup to the menu that will make an exciting 463 horsepower. Porsche announced that the battery capacity for the hybridized version has been increased to 25.9 kWh — but did not disclose a combined mileage estimate.
What’s got everyone excited, though, is the fact that Porsche is bringing back the twin-turbo V8 setup. All eight cylinder churn up 468 horsepower, and moves the full-sized SUV from zero to 60 in 4.4 seconds. For 2024, the V8 will make an extra 34 horsepower over the previous model year, making it a highly-anticipated option in a world full of lithium ion.
Porsche was careful to say that an all-electric Cayenne is still in the works for Porsche, and they intend to make it the best performance EV yet — but reviving the V8 option is a very exciting way to refresh the Cayenne as a product to enthusiasts.
