1971 Porsche 911 RS Tribute is One Good-Looking Hot Rod

1971 Porsche 911 RS Tribute

With the body of a 911 T and 3.0-liter engine from a SC, this RS Tribute won’t fool Concours judges, but it will make drivers do a double-take.

What do enthusiasts do when they can’t afford to buy their dream car? They freaking build it, of course. And those with talent usually do a great job. This cool 1971 Porsche 911 RS tribute we found on Hemmings may not be good enough to win a car show, but it’s more than good enough to cause heads to turn like a swivel when driving on the road.

The 911 RS tribute, according to the listing, uses the underpinnings for a 911 T as the base. The body, which the listing claims is “very straight,” features an absolutely incredible paint job, wearing the uncommon shade of Porsche Chartreuse. The body features professionally-modified quarter panels that utilize genuine steel SC flares, while the front fenders are slightly flared, as well. All-in-all, this thing is a looker.

That’s not all in the looks department as a staggered pair of Fuchs wheels, seven inches in the front and nine inches in the back, that are powder coated black make the vehicle look like one of those poisonous miniature frogs from the Amazon. The RS-styled front bumper has a large oil cooler incorporated into it, while the fiberglass “Duck Tail” spoiler finishes the aggressive look.

The motor, as the listing points out, is believed to come from a 911 SC that’s paired to a five-speed manual transmission from a Porsche 915. The engine has been massaged with stainless-steel headers, an external oil cooler, and electronic fuel injection, while the larger brakes and tires should help put the power down enthusiastically.

While the exterior is finished in “hey, look-at-me styling,” the interior is much more subdued. The 911 RS tribute has new carpets, door panels and a headliner that feature a square weave design. There’s a MOMO steering wheel and red door release straps that provide an extra sporty look, and the trim on the dashboard features a hammered-finished look.

How much will this outlandish 911 RS tribute cost you? The listing claims the price is $63,999 and don’t for an instant think that you can get that price down, as it is “firm.” The paint job alone makes the car worth it, but I would recommend that the new owner remove the “911 R” striping at the back. It just doesn’t fit in.
