Spec Boxsters in Norcal?
So, with what club do the spec Boxsters race in northern California?
I'm a member of NASA, which has a spec Boxster class, but results for 2014 showed no spec Boxsters raced with them. Is there something wrong with NASA? https://www.nasaproracing.com/results/norcal.html
The forums of the Porsche Racing Club show no postings related to spec Boxster. It's all about Spec911. http://www.prc-racing.com/forum
Maybe they race with the Golden Gate Region of the PCA, but it's hard to tell. There are no posted racing results for 2014 and no one has posted anything to their forums in years. http://bbs.pca-ggr.org/phpbb3/index.php
Bill Pickering used to be active here, but hasn't posted anything in years.
Of course, the Porsche Owners Club has many spec Boxsters, and they do occasionally come up north. But there must be some norcal Boxsters, no?
Boxsters can race with the SCCA in the ITR class, but the local region's website shows no Boxsters raced with them last year either.
So I give up--where are the norcal Boxsters hanging out?!
Thanks,
Greg

Greg,
We race with PCA and POC. Typical NorCal fields with PCA are 8-10 SPBs - 14+ when we join up with POC. By far the largest single class at PCA and POC events.
We've got a solid group of drivers who help keep each other on the track. We'll be racing with GGR at Thunderhill end of March.
The year-end issue of POC's Velocity magazine has a story about Boxsters at the November 2014 POC Buttonwillow event.

I agree with what Doug says. We have a GREAT group of Spec Boxsters in NorCal, and if you are willing to head to SoCal a couple of times a year, there is more then enough racing for normal people's scheduled.
PCA is the main venue and has been very solid for years. (Their web forums are not in use at all in this regard.) The only issue with PCA is that they can't/don't get dates at Sonoma, and rarely get into Laguna Seca, which means it's Thunderhill and Buttonwillow. (Plus SoCal.)
PRC (subletting track time from NASA NorCal at Sonoma and Thunderhill) is hugely focused on Spec 911, and we just haven't gotten enough critical mass to drive attendance. None of the people I know have raced within NASA itself.
POC (SoCal based) has a good sized field as well, and when "we" (NorCal drivers) join up with them at Buttonwillow or Laguna Seca the combined field is big!

I think the track records for Spec Boxster are something like 2:04 at Thunderhill and 1:54 at Sonoma.
So, only a couple seconds slower than Spec911 (911's from 1969 to 1989 with limited enhancements). And at probably less than half the cost, from what I've heard. The top Spec911's are close to $100,000 to build. Spec Boxsters only $25,000 to build, and probably handle better too.
Of course, if you really want bang for the buck, a Club Formula Ford or a Formula 600 (600cc motorcycle engine) is the way to go.
CF runs 1:55 at TH and 1:43 at Sonoma, and can be bought for $10,000.
Or go to a modern Formula Ford (1:50 at TH, 1:39 at Sonoma) with a reliable Honda engine for, maybe, $20,000.
F600 runs 1:53 at TH and 1:42 at Sonoma, and can be bought for about the same as CF. Or as a new roller for $22,000 (http://www.novaracecars.com).
