Check engine light... no warnings
Well, the CEL came on today. No warning. Nothing unusual, car running fine. Not sure what to make of it. I dropped it off at the dealer this afternoon.
Hopefully it won't be anything major. This is my first trip to the dealer since my factory warranty expired. I do have an extended warranty, and I was happy to see that the dealer pulled it up in their computer and is prepared to use it if necessary.
I've got my fingers crossed that it is nothing major. I'm wondering if it is coils. Mine are still the originals at roughly 52,000 miles. The car sometimes idles a little rough, but that's about it.
We'll see!

I didn't think about the gas cap. My wife has been using the Cayenne as her daily driver since I bought the 911. It's certainly a possibility. I'll feel quite foolish if that's all it is... but it won't be the first time (or the last time) I've felt foolish.

Just heard from the dealer. There were two codes in the system. One was... yes... the gas cap.
The second one was a cam adjuster fault. According to the tech, this can happen when the oil gets a little dirty and/or starts to break down, usually when an oil change is needed. The oil change light has not yet come on for this vehicle, I was planning to have it changed at the 60K mile service. Looks like I'm getting it changed today!
Should be ready this afternoon.

I'm sure that's it!
I'm actually changing the oil myself on the 996 this weekend. I haven't worked on it yet, so I'm looking forward to that.

It is alot easier. There is no stupid plastic cover with 18 screws to remove. That plastic cover on the Cayenne takes all the time. I even changed the 996 oil without jacking or driving it onto 2x12s. It is possible.

If you are 100% shure the gas cap is tight, and the system passes a short test (via PIWIS) I would suggest installing a new tank vent valve, they can get debri in them and cause an evap leak (CEL). Did the dealer tell you if it was a very small, small, or large leak? Loose gas cap=large leak. Intermittant faulty tank vent valve=very small to small leak. If the tank vent valve is stuck wide open, then you will get a large leak and possible hard starting engine. It can be a royal pain in the butt diagnosing this evap crap!!

The dealer didn't mention the size of the leak. So far, we've reset it and tightened the cap and everything seems fine.

I wouldn't be surprised if 'Porsche52' had 'Pig Whisperer' placed above his avatar instead of 'Addict' in the not too distant future....
