Default Advice on Tuning upgrade from stock

Hi;
I have an '03tt, 80k miles, everything stock except pss10 coilovers, and 997 oem SSK.
I am interested in making the car perform a little better. There is no good reason why.
Would a simple exhaust upgrade do the trick? Fabspeed for example has a big range of options:
http://www.fabspeed.com/996-turbo-turbo-s-2000-2005/
I am nowhere near ready to spend 16k or even close though, so do the less expensive options make a noticeable difference??

Re-mapping?
What would it take to make this car an "X50"? I understand the x50 has bigger turbos?

Default Turbo Performance Upgrade

Seat of the pants feel can easily be improved with a simple, inexpensive throttle aid. Our Turbo "Drive By Wire" electronic accelerator pedals will wake up with a signal booster.

Sprint Booster modifies the signal between the accelerator pedal module and the electronic throttle body. This modified signal forces the throttle body to open 'more' than the stock signal at a given pedal position. In effect, the idle-to-full-throttle pedal travel is reduced. A given pedal input produces greater throttle opening. This is especially evident in the low to mid rpm range where most cars spend their time on the street.

At about $300 delivered to your door and with a 30 day no questions money back guarantee and a 3 year warranty, it's worth a look.

Do a search on Sprint Booster and you can find discussions all over the place from various car brands. The general consensus is it's well worth the $$$.

I put one in last night on an X50 car and spent about a hour testing the two settings. The most aggressive (red) setting was the better of the two.

Installation is a bugger as the connection is under the dash and not easily visible. Nothing has to be removed and the help of a small cordless light and a mirror on a stick will make the connection easier.

This picture is from a Pelican technical guide and shows the booster loose and installed.

Tune and exhaust are going to give you a good bump in power. There are plenty of good tuners for this platform as well as exhausts, listen to some sound clips and do a little research to see which one you like. The x50 has k24 turbo's vs k16 that you have, slightly larger, as well as different intercoolers and a different tune. If you are looking for a little increase in power than exhaust and tune will suffice.

Most bang for the buck is a good tune. We have many happy 996tt and 997tt owners out there. This accomplished primarily by changing the boost profile. The limiting factor is the quality of the fuel that's available today. Average safe gains are still considerable though. We'd be happy to discuss this further and we are very close to you. 410-712-4290.

I'm very happy with my EPL tuning. Would also check out Cobb's AccessPort system...

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking into the Cobb Access Port and an exhaust. All that exhaust that I have been looking into are about 3 times the cost of the Cobb, so I may just start with the tune first. I believe it has OTS tunes that accommodate stock exhaust tune and aftermarket exhaust tune... not 100% sure though.

Thanks! I am in Annapolis, MD.
I do not want to cause the car excessive wear and tear, but I don't drive it like a madman, most of the time, and to date it's never been tracked.
Anyone happy, or not, with Fabspeed?

Here is a link to my current Tuning special.

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...g-special.html

I have K24's on the shelf and can program your ECU to X50 specs/tuning or better. X50 IC's can be fitted, but would recommend the more efficient 997.2TT IC's..

Feel free to email or call me 360.805-9066

The AccessPort system looks interesting, but I wish there was something out there for the 996TT like the SharkTuner for the 928 (real-time live tuning option) that's not crazy expensive.

Great tune and service that is beyond compare.
His knowledge of these cars is helpful when trying to sort fact from fiction.

Yup everyone has nothing but good things to say about Kevins tune (umw) its on my list. Been on it for awhile!
I would suggest you talk to Kevin about his exhaust also. The combination should give you a difference that can be felt. With the exhaust producing no cabin drone?
