Default horn honks when braking

Hi All,

Recently i sold my 1971 t targa and upgraded to a 1995 Carrera 4 cab. Only had the car a short time and driven it 3 times. On 2nd drive the horn went off when I hit brakes hard to slow. Tried again on purpose and it happened again. Went for 3rd drive this morning and the problem persists. Leaned on horn buton several times, even holding it down for 2-3 seconds but it responded as supposed to. But hard braking brought on the honk again. Anyine ecperienc ethis and have solution?

Car has 38,500 original miles, clean carfax and no accidentts or issues. Two prior owners with long history of Porsche servicing.

I agree that you can just replace the rubber grommets in your existing frame, but the entire frame is available at Sunset ( http://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/po...retaining-brkt ) for $76.27. This frame does not fit certain early 993's, so I'd give them a call and have them reference it against your VIN.

Just be careful when installing them. The are very easily broken. On mine, the went into the frame just fine, but the shoulder of the bolts started to bind up and twist them before the bolts were even tight. I broke a few of them and had to have them send me new ones. I haven't had time to install the new ones yet.

There are two types of air bag holders as shown in this photo:

Per the PET the one on the left is for 96-98 and the one on the right is for 94-95. When I replaced my holder I got it from Pelican and they had the 96-98 version (P/N 993 347 088 01) but not the 94-95 version (P/N 993 347 088 00). The one on the left is shot (it is the one that I replaced) but the one on the right is in good shape (it came with a replacement wheel that I bought from a fellow RLer). I have no use for it and it is free to a good home. PM me if interested.

One of those threads probably details filling in around the original bushings with silicone or RTV. That's what I did on my mine a few years ago, works good and basically free.

That's not a bug, it's a value added safety feature!

+1. Do not donate your money to Porsche by attempting to buy a replacement. I've got an early model year 1995 build and the replacement frame didn't fit without a new airbag to go with it. I followed the RTV method and it works brilliantly. I was able to return the frame that I bought, luckily but I had to pay for shipping.

Yep, people get a little pissy when you honk at the car in front of you every time you tap the brakes.

I was able to repair mine using RTV sealant when I couldn't find a replacement when mine went out. 3 or 4 years at this point and no further issues yet.

Thx. I'll update whether it works with mine or not.

It's strange that Sunset confirmed that mine needs 00 part number (for my 95) yet their web site and other dealers list 01 part works with 95 and up.
