Default How long can I still order a 2015?

Any educated guesses on how deep into 2015 I might be able to order a 2015 Targa 4S?

I've been struck with the new Targa bug. It will compliment our '83 911SC Cabriolet.

I've zig-zagged between new and scarecly used, dealer inventory, or getting just what I'd want. I think a naturally aspirated 7MT Targa would become part of my "permanent collection" so ordering one seems justifiable.

But I have no idea how long I'll be able to do that, assuming my dealer can acquire a slot. I'm I no real hurry... and I'm not dead set against a 991.2, but I think I already know what I want.

Thanks in advance!

Many thought that the MY16 facelift would be an early-2015 release, but that looks less likely now that the GTS was released as a 991.1. I think that the best guess now is that the earliest the MY16 will be shown will be at Geneva in March. If that happens, and if you don't like what you see in the facelift, there should be a one or two month window next spring when you can still order a MY15.

Agree with hinckley. I just talked to my dealer and they're being told normal ordering process for '16s and they will be FI but smaller displacement due to CAFE Standards.

That's what I was (financially) hoping after there were no surprise 991.2's at the LA Show. So maybe April-May? I'm not aware of what normal scheduling is either!

Thanks much!!!

Porsche usually switches over production in June/July and there's a short run up until the month-long August plant shut-down. Production then ramps up in September.

PAG has had high demand for the Targa 4S and limited production of that model. So, if you are set on it, I would try to get an allocation ASAP! Read this posted by Marko Polo at the 'Custom Ordering a 991' thread:

Good analysis except I don't think PAG will reveal the facelift that early. It would depress sales of 991.1 production anticipated for March, April & May in the 'old' look and dealers would not look kindly on PAG doing that.

Correct but this is a fairly new business as usual* since the start of MY at PAG has been all over the map in recent years. And don't forget that just recently the automotive press had stories that speculated that the facelift would be announced at the IAA (Frankfurt Auto Show - Sep 17, 2015 - Sep 27, 2015) and production of it to start late in the year.

The naturally aspirated engines in the Carrera and CS will be replaced by turbocharged ones, still six cylinders but with smaller displacements. Both engines will gain 15 hp. (No information on torque, which should be considerably higher than that of current engines -- at a sacrifice in engine response). Cayman and Boxters will become available with turbocharged 4-cylinder engines next year even before the 2015 IAA. These will become available for the 911 at the 2018 model change." The only reason for these changes is the need for Porsche to meet ever-tighter future fuel efficiency and CO2 regulations. HansGT2 - 6speedonline

I personally don't think the facelift will be announced that late - at the IAA in September - or that production & deliveries of the .2 model will not commence until late in the year.

So when do I expect the face lifted MY2016 991.2 or (992) to start actual production in the assembly line at Zuffenhausen?

JUNE of 2015. And the reason is that 'Porsche Exclusive' has recently told their clients & dealers that PTS is discontinued for the rest of MY2015 production and will re-appear in June of 2015! That to me signifies that MY2016 will start in June (as best as we can tell from the information so far at hand).

*This year, 2014, the transition for MY2014 to MY2015 in the 991 occurred on the first week of June. But, for example, that was not the case for the MY2012 .2 997 in 2011 or when the first .1 991's were built also in 2011.

Z356, Very insightful! Thanks for peeling back the many layers of this not-so-simple quest!

So, Melissa didn't get Sasha's old job then? That's too bad. I was pulling for her.

What are Barbara's contact details? (I may have missed a post about this somewhere.)

Thanks!

Do dealers actually have advance knowledge of future models. I would suggest that info. is held close to the chest.

Usually not. Once in a while you'll encounter someone who actually has real information due to their connections inside PAG. Most of the time, we'll know when they know (and sometimes, even before they know).
