Shift linkage bushing??
Hello everyone.
Helping a friend with his car. Yvonne and Chet's '90 964 C2.
Unable or very difficult to get into reverse and a few of the gears....
Transmission is fine. Transmission mount looked fine. Engine mounts are shot but not the culprit...
So I am thinking that this must be part #26 on the diagram... since when they go bad they give this type of behavior... inexpensive parts that I can order from the local dealer... So I order 2 #26 and, since I am there, why not change the 4 #6 bushings as well.
I get to work, take everything apart and see that the condition of #26 is normal.
front:
rear:
So I take off the two covers (front and back) to check the condition of the shift linkage. Turns out the rear bushings in the universal joint are toast (at least one is)... I can't find a replacement part number for it... and it would be a sin if the whole linkage needs to be replace for this...
Plus the way the bushings are inserted I have no idea how that pin is removed... the bushings are installed from the inside and the pin does not look like it can be pushed out.
Anyone knows of a replacement bushing available for this?? Thank you.
Photos:
Oh! Forgot to mention... the fun part was that my son (6 year old) helped getting all the 10mm nuts and bolts off the bottom covers. I should have taken photos of him doing the work... safety glasses, apron (the one they get a Lowes when they do their projects), and used his own tool box... woohoo!

I do not have a answer for your question, but I need a little information on how to get #23 off #1. I have the bottom part loose, but I can not pull the **** off the shift lever.
PS. there is a thread under "993 RS short shift" that show a universal joint that can be welded on in place of the old stock one. https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ift-lever.html scroll down to post #8.
Thanks

In other years you have to raise the boot to expose the rubber, and remove a clip before pulling the ****.

Now that I think about it... I might be mixing cars here... the clip in the **** I think it was in my 951...
Anyway... I see you have a '91 like me. So it is the same as this '90. It is just pressed in there and the resistance you are getting is just from the rubber...
Take some vitamins and pull that sucker out!

Thank you for the link. If there is no bushing replacement I might take the old one (broken) and just make a mold and fill it with epoxy... maybe that will work for now (not the first time I make a bushing using this method... not for this car, but for a Renault R5 Turbo we could not find a bushing)

Thank you to Oracle on Pelican... seems the 915 Shift Coupler Bushings might be what I am looking for

All set waiting for the parts to arrive. Since I have the other bushings I will replace those as well... last thing I want is to fix this only for the other bushings to go bad shortly after...
What is strange is that this car is still using the 915 universal joint rather than the later style... in Porsche nothing goes to waste I guess...
This is the other style (photo from Ken964). This one is closer to what the PET shows:

Seriously though, your friendship is second to none.

Nordschleife Master
Jaime, my wheels could use some touch-up painting. Rotor hats, too!
On your way to Hawk's would you stop by (with some warm FL weather) to help me out?
Thanks!
