What would you like to know? For '91 and later it bolts right in. It can be done in a '90 but a small mod must be done for it to work properly. Regardless of what you may hear, DO NOT install the unit so that the bottom of the lever extends down below the cover plate. Some have dimpled or cut a hole to clear the bottom of the lever. This is WRONG and not what the factory intended. When installed correctly it all fits inside the box with nothing protruding below. My car is MY 1990 and after altering the box to fit the later style mounts for the lever it works perfectly. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

Sorry but I do not have pictures. What I can tell you though is that only one part is different for the mounting on an early car. It is the bushing (2ea) that supports the tube that the shift lever pivots on. On an early one like mine the piece is round. On the late model cars the piece is oval with the hole for the support tube on one end of it. When the standard lever is installed the hole is mounted down. When installing the R S lever the bushings are inverted so that the hole is up toward the trans tunnel. It is necessary because of the longer fulcrum of the new lever which facilitates the shorter throw. This allows the whole assembly to reside within the box and not protrude below. There are threads on this subject in the PET with pics. I hope this has been helpful. If I can clarify it any further just ask. It is not a big deal to retrofit the later bushings to an early car. I am going on 2 years and 25,000 miles without a single problem after the upgrade.

Anto,
Shipping to Italy might make this a poor option, but I have the shift lever, fork, and oval bushings I am interested in selling if you cannot find them locally. I purchased the parts new from a Porsche dealer here in the US for use with my '91 Turbo but decided not to make the change after discovering that my car takes the round bushings and would require cutting sheet metal to make the change. All of the parts are still in the original bags. PM me if you are interested.

I just did mine and added a little twist. RS lever and fork and changed ball studs on front rod with spherical joints. On the transmission rod, I welded a universal joint ala 993 RS. My local dealer is selling it for 566$ CAD and mine all said and done cost barely 60$ USD.
Part number are
- RS shift lever: 964 424 015 08
- RS fork: 964 424 017 01
- RS shift rod: 964 424 020 35

1990-964,
thanks for all the informations! Mine' s a '91 C2 (exactly like yours!). So, can I do the job from the cockpit, or do I have to lift the car?
denver88carrera,
thanks a lot, but I can easely get all the staff here.
CWay27,
what a job!!! Congratulations!

I believe that you would have to go in from the bottom. There would not be enough room coming down from the cockpit side. Once you have the car elevated you remove the long central cover and everything is very easy to access. Good Luck!

There was a thread over the 993 board about a month or so ago and a few rennlist member did the same thing. The spherical joints were purchased from midwest control products and universal joint along with cone shaped washer were purchased from pegasus.

I started doing the job, but I got stuck with the shifter lever extending down below the cover plate. I didn't understand how to solve this problem.... help, please.
Thanks a lot.

You need to flip the guide tube that the shift lever rides back and forth on so the tube sits higher up in the transmission tunnel. There are two yellow rubber retainers with snap rings at both ends of the tube. Pull out the tube, flip everything 180 degrees and re assemble. Sorry I'm not using the correct terms for these parts but hopefully you get the idea. Feel free to PM me or call with any questions. 503-551-9365
