You'd have to swap out the G64 tranny for a G50, including the mounting bracket; remove all PDAS hydraulic lines going to the rear tranny; change out the PDAS/ABS controller for a C2 ABS module; change out the wiring harness to use a C2 harness to use a non-accelerometer controlled ABS; change the front hubs for a C2's (probably easier to just bolt on an entire C2 front suspension); change the gear shifter and linkage for a C2's; remove driveshaft and front differential... and last but not least, change the rear badge from a 4 to a 2! The wiring harness would be the toughest part.
That's way too much work - just get a C2... but then again, the C4 is such a monster on the street and track, why would you want to do that?!

I agree with the responses, get a C2 unless you are building some kind of frankenstein.
Interesting side note - I read one of the tuners (like gembala but not them) did this exact same thing to a much newer (2000ish) 911 simply for all the beefed up stuff they didn't take off (besides drivetrain) to help handle the 600HP turbo mods and all the other goodie you'd need to reign in such power. I don't know if a 964 C4 offers anything "beefier" you wouldn' have to rip out. 600 ponies in a rear-engine rear-drive car weighing something less than 3000 pounds. That takes some serious cajones (or lack of survival instinct) to drive anywhere near the limit. I guess as long as you NEVER come close to flooring it in a turn and learn how to really use such a ridiculous-looking power curve (yah good luck) it would be pretty erection-inducing. ...things i'll never have (sigh) ...the car, that is

thanks for the information. i was thinking of buying a 94 4wd widebody and making it a 2wd if it was simple. the idea was to save weight. i know in the 993 car the change over is pretty easy and i have a friend that has one he did. i was under the impression that there would be a much greater weight savings in a 964 car. but i will let that idea rest

Project does sort of make sense. The C4 celebration wide bodies aren't exactly all that rare but the widebody 3.8 RSR are like rocking horse poo. If you want to make a replica RSR it's the way to go IMO. I believe 9M are/have done the same.

Three Wheelin'
Ok, if, and only if, you had a 993-based 4wheel drive, you would be able to convert to rear wheel drive only as this system had a completely mechanical system through "viscous coupling" (think torque converter). Some guys in the 993tt have simply deleted the front portion of 4wheel drive without dealing with any CEL. The 964's 4wheel drive system is very complex, acting on both physical and electrical/hydraulic ques making it a disaster if you wanted to convert it to rear wheel drive only. I agree with the the guys here, sell it and buy a rear wheel drive only, or keep it and have two porsches.

If going for an RSR, I would think it would be a heck of a lot cheaper to start with a plain C2, add wide flares, then add the hydraulic pressure pump, accumulator, and master cylinder versus start with the C4 and change the entire driveline, hubs and electronics. But then again, that project would likely cost a lot any direction you took!!!

I have done this mod the way everyone describes. I just sold my 90 C4 Cab and am now looking for a C2 Coupe. Tough to get rid of a car that I really liked and knew a complete history on but this is what makes life fun. New car I am looking at has extensive records so I feel comfortable with that, after a PPI of course.
